Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Not sure if I should be offended by this or not.............

I've been to town this morning and took DS with me in his Mac Major (he's 4 with ASD / LD ) and this is the only way to shop with him! He was having a good day and looked quite cute as he was wearing his easter "duck" hat.
I was about to pay for something in a charity shop and the elderly lady serving me suddenly looked up and said
"whats the matter with your son?"
I breifly explained and she said
" Oh I've got one of those too - he's 45 now and still a pain"

It was just very odd...............I think she meant well?

I think its the sort of comment anyone would make?

I wouldnt be offended by that.

I think this is a bit rude but certainly round here a lot of people who work in charity shops have their own issues (mental health etc.) and perhaps Allowances Have To Be Made...

I also don't think that wearing a silly hat and being in a buggy is particularly out of the ordinary for a four year old.

I never mind people asking about DS but there was something very odd about this lady, perhaps it was the tone she used about her son that unsettled me.

I wouldn't take it to heart, it says more about her than it does about you. It may be that she has an 'alternative' sense of humour, it may be that she really does think her son is a pain, she was coming to the conversation with her own experiences and voicing them.

What's the matter isn't as bad as the "AH BLESS WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIM?" That I got on the bus before with DS in his major. Hmm

People just don't tend to think IME. I pointed out he wasn't deaf, there was nothing 'wrong' with him, and his medical condition is no ones business but ours and his doctors. I'm not one to be crossed. Grin

The charity shops in my town all have volunteers with mental health issues, learning diffculties, etc - I bear that in mind and give a little lee way when I'm in them.
