Imaginary friends.

I dont have a problem with imaginary friends, and I dont think they are anything to be concerned about, but has anyone any experience of this -

DS is almost 5, and his imaginary friend is himself
From what I can make out, this friend has the same name, same age etc.
Ds name is Haydn and he will talk to someone else called Haydn, he will ask him questions and answer them, and often has long discussions with him eg

Haydn 1 - What do you want to play Haydn?
Haydn 2 - Erm I dont know
Haydn 1 - ok, shall we play with the cars.
Haydn 2 - alright
Haydn 1 - come on then

Now I always thought imaginary friends were, someone different to thier own personality, and the (real) child only heard the answers not said them out load.

Just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about.

BTW he is currently under assessment, as asd is suspected, because of lots of different factors, though clearly he has imaginative play.

I think the classic imaginary friends scenario is as you described - and this is what happened with my dd.

I think your ds may well have a bit of his own take on this - but I think it is quite a positive thing potentially, helping him explore and express his own feelings

Yes I suppose it is a positive thing, considering his difficulties.

OMG, i am so unbelieveably stupid, cant believe I did'nt think of this befor.

I also have 2yr old identical twin girls, so that pretty much explains everything.

Strange how you see things differently when you write them down.

DH has another theory, his late granddad was called haydn, so dh thinksthinks he is visiting ds from the other side.

my eldest son, william, is 5, and he is forever having that kind of conversation with himself

I assumed it was becuase ds2 is ASD and barely verbal, so if william doens't talk with me, himself is the only alternative!

or maybe yor dh is right waterfalls! I mean strangfer things have happened

We have a new friend as well dd is called daisy she often sits on her bed at night talking to daisy- when asked who daisy is she says it's the monster that lives under bed that comes to play
