i would be grateful for anyones experience.

we went away last week to a family friendly hotel, but TBH it was a bit of a nightmare and my husband and i found it very stressful.

our son is only 5, but ive realised why you dont see any 15 year olds like him about in public (running about making strange noises, pulling funny faces while staring at his hand, with a tape measure hanging out his gob...)

cos their parents have HAD IT UP TO HERE!!!

sorry, still a bit raw. Sad

our other kids are 7 and 4. any ideas gratefully appreciated!

what about a caravan site, somewhere like Haven, Butlins or Park Dean (i have only used Park Dean, they are cheaper and not as full on) and go to one where you can get out an about exploring the countryside or the beach etc....

I don't have much experience (we tend to -scrounge off- visit relations). A friend of mine went on am autism horse riding holiday in Argyll but I think anything horsey is $$$.
Lots of people seem to rate camping at Comrie Croft.
I would second the op, probably lots of natural space to run about and no snotty types looking down their nose at you is best.

Nooooooo to hotels!
Cottage in the middle of nowhere (God, how bad does that sound!). Aviemore? There's loads to do and you'll be able to get somewhere with plenty of space around you.

We went to Glenmore campsite near Aviemore for YEARS!! Beisde the loch, loads of trails and paths to cycle/explore, plenty space to make noise.
Have you the chance to get a caravan? It is great for kids with ASD as the environment stays the same.. and if you save really hard you can go out for tea a lot so it doesn't feel like such hard work..... there is an all you can eat buffet at the Italian and Glenmore Lodge is really chilled about kids who run around.
DS 2 with ASD now 14 Smile but started going when he was 6.. lots of nice cottages in the area to rent too, or a lodge at Coylumbridge Hilton if you have plenty cash? Kids club people there cope with lots of strange behaviours Smile

House swap? Someone with kids?

I live in rural Scotland and quite a few friends here also house swap.

We have just arranged our summer swap or i'd have offered you our place.

What does your 5 year old like doing? What do you like to do as a family?

We live at the edge of the forest so lots of walks immediately outside house and very little traffic. Local holiday place has small pool you can use too, infact what about the holiday place itself www.tomich-holidays.co.uk/guisachan.htm sorry can't do links but its really nice. Lots of space for the kids to run wild and nice small pool etc.

I stay in Scotland too my ds is 11 and has severe autism. always makes lots loud noises, never walks always jumps bounces along, has to pull things off shop shelves etc, always clapping very loud, everything goes in his mouth....... we always do caravan holidays usually Haven as they are great for families they have all action parks with plenty entertainment and quieter parks too if you prefer. Craig Tara in Ayr (haven park), is a fantastic park, plenty for kids to be amused, huge swimming pool with flumes, right on beach etc. fantastic facilities. Word of advice though, if going for caravan instead of booking through haven it is worth googling private caravan hire at (whatever park you want to go), it is usually a lot cheaper and you will also see exact caravan you want and the location of it too. Craig Tara always have a lot of disabled guests so you wont feel so alone, have big caravans right at beach with sea view and balcony.
