DS3 knew that the square root of -1 is i, an imaginary number when he was 6 but couldn't get his teacher interested... Hmm

We go to a support group weekend in a hotel every couple of years for DD's syndrome. At one event they decided to run some sessions for siblings to talk about what it is like to have a disabled brother/sister. The children were asked to say something good about having a sibling with a disability. DS pipes up "I get to have a weekend away in a 4 star hotel every 2 years and eat as much food as I like from the buffet". Not sure that was quite what they had in mind!!!!

I'm gonn go for a proud mummy moment here.

My ds is 11 and due to start secondary later this year. They get to choose 1 friend who they will be put in the same form as. My ds and his best friend for many years chose each other. His friend also has a sibling with ASD. A boy in their class who has learning difficulties had no one to choose but it had been arranged for him to be put with his cousin and her friend. Her friend stated in front of the whole class that she wouldn't be grouped with him. My ds and his friend told the teacher he could be grouped with them. They were both disgusted by this girls actions.

My son has also in the past reported bullying on a child with asd to the teacher. The child didn't realise that the girls were bullying him as he thought he was making them laugh by allowing them to continually twist his ears. My son intervened and stopped it and then reported it because he knows that his sister who has asd has difficulty understanding people's intentions. He's one hell of guy!

Aww, sazale. Smile A bit of grit in my eye...

Sazale, you have every right to have a proud mummy moment. Your ds sounds like such a lovely boy. Smile

Ds2 has benefitted from having ds1 as his brother by developing the patience of a saint (he is so much more patient than I am). Grin His teachers always comment on what a steady influence he is and how patient he is with the other children in his class. I've also had a couple of parents come up and tell me how much he has helped their dcs in class when they were struggling (both the children in questions have SENs).

On a slightly lighter note, he was able to develop his gaming skills really quickly after getting his first game console last year and can outplay all his friends no problem, as well as offering them great hints and tips for beating their games. This of course has led to him becoming a legend in his own lunchtime! Grin

I have four children.. DS2 14, has Autism and Learning difficulties.

DD1 20,.... now at med school training to be a doctor
DS1 19 .... working in the community with adults who have LDs and mental health problems
DD2... off to Uni in September to be a Learning Disability Nurse!!

I think DS2 has steered their careers somehow Grin which I am insanely proud about of course!! Grin
