i am sick to death of camhs , they have failed to help me find out what is wrong with ds2 in the last 2 years . They have not done what they said they would the latest being to observe ds in school , told me first week in january.

ds2 is 13. i may be barking up the wrong tree but i would like him to be tested for dyspraxia. Do i have any other options other than camhs ?

thanks

The community paediatrician agrees that my son has this. She's referred him to an OT and a physio.

I'd pop and see your GP, twas the school doctor who referred ds to the community paediatrician but your GP can do it as well (or refer him straight to an OT/Physio team.)

I second that. I went to the GP and he referred to OT and community paediatrician. OT said he is not dyspraxic but has low tone and hyper mobile joints. His twin brother has also been tested, with similar results plus sensory processing issues.

The wait for OT varies but is usually very long (9 months for one of my boys, 12 for the other - they were seen by OTs from different boroughs but that is an entirely separate issue!).

Good luck.

Yes, paediatrician will diagnose following assessment by OT and Ed Psych. GP definitely your first point of call.

Dsis 12. He is hypermobile but also very clumsy. He doesn't hear people's pitch very well so he'll think that he's being told off when he isn't. Socially, he's not like other children his age, he can be immature. His organisational skills are poor so I spend most of my time reminding him about things. He saw the paediatrician in Jan and we're still waiting for the school to fill the forms in. It may take a while to get a diagnosis.

I went and cried at my GP - that seemed to work :)

Were seen in 6 weeks by paed. She didn't diagnose (preferring to say he's on the dyspraxia spectrum, but I don't want to label him)....but we did get seen my a physio and observed in school by a specialist teacher and ended up with dx of SpLD instead.

Good luck!

thanks for all the replies. Ds2 seems to be a bit of a mystery.
His organizational skills are bad.
Forgets things all the time .
Went through phase of forgetting very obvious words.
Doesnt seem to ever get the grasp of how to explain things properly or ask for things properly and comes across as rude (of course sometimes he is just being rude!)
when writing misses words out all the time
cannot write anything in his own words and gets in trouble for copying and pasting homework.
lots of things but recently i looked at a report from the neurologist from back when he was diagnosed with absence seizures which says ds2 has hypermobile joints .
would explain why he can do a party trick with his thumbs and weve had 2 A & E visits with a pulled out arm !
Thing that doesnt make sense though is that he can ride a bike well and is good at karate .
would that rule out dyspraxia ?
