ds is 3y/o and goes to a private nursery he loves it there hes been going 18months it would break my ds's heart to leave there but his development the gap is getting wider, they don't see an issue really which makes me doubt myself SALT think his behaviour is fine but he is great 1-1 in a quiet environment and shes only seen him twice. community paed is crap but he agrees his behaviour is amiss but blames the speech, family support says speak to hv, hv says speak to family support... health visitor as been great to us getting services involved but the services are imo letting my boy down.

visited some school nurseries, 1 was way to vibrant with a massive out door play area with a wendy house decking ect, looked lovely tbh but not for ds he spent the whole time holding my hand and looking a 1 display they had but it is the closest and 5 members of his family are in that nursery.

the other school is very very good SEN wise, great SENCO who took time out to speak to me, the school inside was more calm more plain, ds walked round and he liked it, i explained about ds and what was happening and they said i need to apply for a statement even if he doesnt attend this school he needs 1-1 for speech.

im torn what to do!!! i know ds will get more help sen wise at 1 school but it will be a 15-20minute walk, 1 school he knows half the class and its nearer home so easier to walk too n fro from literally on the door step 3minute walk, the private nursery ds will be heartbroken to leave, its a big part of his life and the centre as been part of his life from 6 weeks old the hours suit me and ds better he only attends 3 half days there and he is so at home there

I think you know what to do. The second school nursery sounds bloody great, and the SENCo is already making the right noises. It depends whether you can manage the daily walk...

i know i need to get him in that school they've said we are in the catchment and they are 99.9% sure he will get a place at the school, just worried about the walk its a 15minute walk to his private nursery atm but there is no pressure to be on time. he is fantastic at walking long distance but he needs to be on reins at all times because he runs off he can't walk in a straight line he has to be flapping a hand, pirouetting, walking side ways, backwards, hobby horsing the list is endless he just finds it impossible to walk at the side of me.

think i'll fill the forms in ready see if he can get into this easter intake... dreading it :(

It's a while ago, but I remember the days on reins! Back braking. Sad I was lucky enough to have a car for nursery, but we walked to school. I had a buggy board on DS3's buggy, but DS2 kept jumping up and down on it and getting off.

saladsandwich · 21/03/2012 23:20

if he's having a bad day i'll take him in the buggy but really want him off the reins x

I had a similar dilemma when moving ds from ms reception to ss. Both had places but the further one just felt better and the staff where more friendly, they also did lots of outdoor stuff. We went with the school that was further away,in the end it was for a silly reason being the pool was on full view in the first one, even though it was close and he knew other children in the class. It was the best thing we did. It takes ds 45 mins to get to and from school but he loves it and it has been the making of him.
Do what you feel is right for ds and pick the school that will best suit his needs.

im just deciding when to move him now, might be september now depending on this intake at easter see if i can get him in quicker x
