Does anyone know where i can get PEC pictures to print?

I would like to make a visual timetable and would like pictures/symbols especially for things such as 'taking a break', i have no idea how to express this?

Thanks, i dont mind buying some, if this is successful. I think i have found some, im just hoping these are the correct ones, i dont know what pecs look like!

Would it really matter if they were not exactly pecs, as long as there is a picture with writing at the top. I know that dss uses pecs in school, so obviously this would be best. But up until now, i have been communicating with him with my hand drawn scribbles Blush and he understands and seems quite pleased with them.

you could have a look at
Pyramid Educational Consultants UK where you can get a CD of pics.
or PECS Downloads from Children With Special Needs
or Beyond Autism Pecs Pictures/Icons Pages links galore.

Sparklebox has some symbols for timetables
Mrsriley.com is a low cost subscription service where you can use pictures from the website or upload your own to make cards - you could do it using google images etc but this makes it super easy

If ds needs more, school usually give us ours, no problems.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 21/03/2012 21:43

I'd ask what they use at school because it would be best to use the same as they do to save your DS confusion, toilet, biscuit etc. My DS's SS used to supply me with any I asked for. Any specific toys, food or DVDs we had only at home I'd make up as it didn't matter.

I agree its good to start with what school are using, but you might have words you want to use at home that aren't relevant in a school environment - I like these www.mrsriley.com , I think there's a charge tho.

Complicated, claw! In my DS's school they had a symbol for 'finished' like a road sign type red circle with a red diagonal line through to put on top of other symbols. So, computer finished, picture of computer with red circle around it and red line across it. I think it's fairly common practise so he may be familiar with it. It it too complicated to talk to the school directly? Would that be treading on too many toes? Good luck, I think anything you can do to improve communication will help. I used a kitchen timer for DS but he is pretty HF. How about time timers? (google)

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 22/03/2012 11:29

Ooh, our PECs symbols always had the writing at the bottom. Probably doesn't matter. Smile

claw4 · 22/03/2012 11:38

Oops i was trying to use two different user names one for step sons info and one for ds info, ive got confused and complicated things!!

I will have to stick to Claw now Grin

Well dp was due to go into school for parents evening last week, his ex invited him, but didnt tell him which day or time. She then didnt return his calls or texts, so he couldnt go.

Yes treading on toes it would! He has not been able to see his boys for 4 and half years and has only recently started to see them again, so he is having to tread very carefully. When he asked if he could have a copy of PECs, she saw this as a criticism.

So i have been thrown in at the deep end, two step children with autism, who come to stay at weekends. The only info i have is what i have read in IEP's and statements!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 22/03/2012 16:03

Gosh, claw, that does sound tricky. Hopefully it will end up being a positive experience for everyone. It must be difficult for you and all the boys to get used to such a big change. At least you are interested, informed and have MN to refer to! Smile
