Fuming at SENCO...

Our old SENCO was lovely, but she got promoted last year & we were assigned a new SENCO.

in the past year we have never seen her, she's been on permanent sick leave with stress, but returned at Xmas. I emailed her early jan to say DD had acheived all her IEPS (set by her temp SENCO) & needed new ones. She finally arranged to visit DD in nursery at the end of Feb but didn't turn up, with no explanation. I tried contacting her, but got no response, so I ended up having to email her (again no response).

This morning I got an email from her to say she was at the nursery to see DD, without telling us or the nursery, but couldn't assess DD without her latest SALT or physio reports, despite the fact she is cc on them all and the nursery also has copies (she never asked to see them).

She ended her email by saying that she wouldn't return to the nursery for another few months & we needed to provide her with all DD reports (again) before she would even schedule a new appointment

I'm so mad, she is absolutely useless & more importantly it means DD will go 6 mths without any suport! Does anyone know how I can go about requesting to change SENCO?

Thanks in advance

Why are nursery not doing the Ieps themselves?

Dd2's used to get done in house termly (SLT, ot and physio used to go in and advise) and the area inco just sed to pop in every year or so ( and really only to advise on statementing and transition to yr r).

Not sure why you have an external senco? Is she just the area dude from the LA?

Pretty much - I've asked the nursery's SENCO to set some new IEPs, but apparently they're not allowed to without the council's SENCO being there??? I've ended up writing her current ones (based on physio & SALT reports) so they have something to work off.

Not allowed to? Frankly bizarre. It's not rocket science, particularly if you have therapist input.

Get them to confirm that in writing.

Dd2 was in three different nurseries and they all produced Ieps for her with no area involvement.

Postcode stuff.

Are her needs severe enough for stat assessment? I would be suggesting that you will apply yourself if they don't start getting it sorted.

The off sick thing is typical. I know areas where they have no school based SLT for the same reason. Pita.

I would go to their office and demand to see her or her boss! You should try finding out who the Director is for Inclusion and start to harass them. I did, and it's amazing how quick things get done.
