Ds2 having snake nightmares

Ds2 has had some nightmares about snakes and lately has been finding it difficult to get to sleep. I gave him a little torch and have laid with him to calm him down and that helped. The best thing that's worked the last couple of nights though is mixing a little lavender/chamomile essential oil mix (body shop) with almond oil and rubbing it in his arms and torso. He has very sensitive skin and I wondered if this was adding to his problem? Plus the oils are good to aide sleep. Seems to be working, fingers crossed Smile

Ds2 is currently being assessed for autism. He's 11 so it's taken a while, though I've always known and often voiced it. At least it's better late than never and in time for comp.

Is sensitive dry skin common with autistic children or not? It isn't eczema or anything just dry.

My son also suffeers with occasional nightmares (he is not autistic), and what sometimes works is making a big thing of turning the pillow over "so that the nightmare goes away" ... I read it somewhere, it,s not my own idea, but it does sometimes work for distraction away from the nightmare.

I am not sure about the itchy skin though.

Thanks for that. DS2 is 11 so not sure it'd work but worth a try? I forgot to say he thinks the snakes are on his body, hence me trying to help his skin. I didn't really make that clear at all did I? Grin

Lol! How frigtening for him. Would it help to buy a bag of jelly snakes and them ceromoniously (sp) throw them away. Snakes be gone!! Positive connection r something like that what paul mc kenna would say.

I told him lavender oil repels snakes Grin Well, it does repel moths anyway Wink

I could try that thanks although no doubt he'd want to eat them Grin

I think we have a small plastic toy snake somewhere? Or I could get some.

If he would want to eat them then you could highlight the connection of " snakes arent that bad"/ they are only in your dreams and not real snakes/at least these jelly knes are delicious/lets buy another bag as they are super delicious, repeat to fade ....

Yes will give it a go. He started again last night so I rubbed oil on. I asked him this morning how he slept and he said 'I went straight to sleep' Smile
