Oddest reason for a meltdown?

UnChartered · 20/03/2012 09:42

DD's morning was thrown out of kilter today as her birthday has been moved to a different month Confused

she has a calendar in her room, permanently on her birthday month page (in case she forgets Hmm).

Nothing has changed, the page is the same - so heaven knows what she was getting upset about Grin

please make me laugh with the oddest reasons your AS child has melted down over?

Grin

(i'm a regular btw, just needed a NameChange Wink)

DS2 (age 2.7) wanted pancakes for breakfast. I made pancakes. He then flipped out because I put a pancake on his plate. Still haven't figured that one out.

this is where DDs 'collecting' mode comes in handy Wink

i get her to help me choose a nice box/place to 'keep things safe'

your DS sounds a lovely lad - DD doesn't have special friends, she's a social butterfly - anyone (everyone Blush) is her 'friend'

I asked DS to stop moaning this morning so I was met with tears (not real tears you see, his eyes were 'just wet' apparently) because when I say the word 'moaning' it hurts his feelings and makes his 'Happy Tube' go down into the red.

Honestly, it's like walking on eggshells some days!

intothewest · 20/03/2012 11:42

My DS used to be obsessed with the red fire alarms (that are everywhere if you look !)They all have numbers and one day in the supermarket he was going around looking at them all as we went. He suddenly shouted 'number 26 , 26' and threw himself to the floor in a huge meltdown................
looked the same to me Confused

Thankfully we've moved on Smile

FlyingFig · 20/03/2012 11:50

intothewest I too never realised how many red fire alarms there are around until I had DS! Those and sprinkler systems Grin

I used to regularly get grief because i can't control what is on the TV i used to hate CBeebies changing their schedule.

Full on melt down because his bed wasn't right, it was the same as it always has been and he could explain further, that led to a week of sleeping on the floor.

ineedstrongcoffee · 20/03/2012 12:09

a huge meltdown because i wouldnt buy 10 tins of cat food, we dont have a cat !!!

baboos · 20/03/2012 12:38

School run yesterday... got ds (4.0) out of car, eyes like a hawk, spotted worm on pavement, cue sit down protest stating that he needed to look after the worm, as his mummy wasn't there, and when he was told no, he had to go to preschool, full on meltdown ensued, screaming at everyone walking past 'don't step on the worm, he's my best friend, you will kill him!' Took me another 30 mins to get him into preschool.

Honestly, you could'nt make it up...

UnChartered · 20/03/2012 13:28

oh no, we've had real tears over a worm

it was DD who squashed it mind...

I had a complete meltdown the day we had to bring a very-run-over frog home.

Oh, you mean the children's meltdowns? The latest one was over a gingerbread man. Two children, only one desired gingerbread man (no other identical shapes in the batch). It got seriously ugly. Fortunately, the door bell rang unexpectedly, and in our surprise we all stopped screaming at each other (and went on to have an absolutely lovely afternoon in the park in the sunshine with the visiting friend).

(My MN name is aspirational)

appreciateit · 20/03/2012 20:15

Wolves - is that the sort of thing which happens in your house?. Im trying to work out what is going on with my dd and this is the sort of thing i get. I asked would she like chicken stew or a sandwich, reply stew. Stew given, huge meltdown!!?

XxAlisonxX · 20/03/2012 21:02

my DD1s bed, no one can be near it all day while she is at school, but every time she comes home, goes upstairs and the screaming meltdown begins, and the hissy fit goes on that some one has touch or been on her bed or something has been moved, i wouldnt mind but the house is empty all day lol. ........ ooo another 1 is rabbits, she is obsessed with rabbits, say anything bad about a rabbit or even a cartoon where a rabbit gets hurt = total hissy fit.

coff33pot · 20/03/2012 23:20

Tomato sauce touching peas
Can be squirted all over anything else in the food chain but if it touches his peas..............

signandsmile · 21/03/2012 07:47

luckily they are only minor meltdowns but yesterdays was because I couldn't make him 8, (he is 5) " but I want be 8, please please PLEEEEEEEESE!!!!" Hmm.

Not having the 'right' number of sweets too, (too many is as bad as too few....) argh!

intothewest · 21/03/2012 08:13

flying Smile ...and can't they spot them a mile off !

coff33 the sauce and peas is my 15 yr old (nt) DD ! Grin

Voidka · 21/03/2012 10:38

DS (5) has the biggest meltdown the other day because he hates DD sucking her thumb. It lasted 25 minutes and by the end they had both screamed themselves out and I was partially deaf. St one point they were running round me in a circle.

She is only three and goes to be earlier than him - if her door isnt closed he will go in when she is asleep to try and get it out of her mouth.

wolvesarejustoldendaydogs · 21/03/2012 10:48

appreciated - how old is your DD? I think when I offer DS2 a choice, he often says the thing he DOESN'T want, for some reason - maybe that's what's foremost in his mind. So then I give it to him and we have a meltdown...

appreciateit · 21/03/2012 13:59

She is 4 in three weeks. Dont know if you have seen my other post but just dont know whats going on and what to do ;(

UnChartered · 21/03/2012 14:13

appreciate my DD is 4.9yrs and we have the most irrational meltdowns (hence the thread) one of the best pieces of advice i was given, from this board in fact, was to make a note of everything and see if a pattern emerges.

my DD can't make a choice at all if she's had a busy time or if she's worked hard at school - she wanted a dvd on the other day, but couldn't choose which one, so she asked me to choose for her. then she went off on one in case i chose the wrong one for her.

we ended up drawing with no dvd on at all
