Hi, i have seen good comments about the more than words hanen book but haven't been able to find it second hand and have been spending out a lot recently on other things (trying new vitamins, brain food plan book etc) so havent got around to purchasing it new as its expensive at around £35.
I have the 'it takes two' hanen book already and have read this a while back. Ivjust realised amazon will give me around £32 to trade this in with them which is nearly exactly how much i need for the 'more than words' from there!
really thinking of re-reading/taking notes from the first book so i can then trade it in to get the second....
what i suppose im asking is... is this more than words book good for a non verbal (makes lots of noises but only 1 or 2 actual words) 2.5 year old who needs more help understanding language and what words mean?

Hi - I have both books. Both are brilliant.
ITTTT is a general S&L book.
MTW is specifically for children with ASD and who therefore need a slightly different approach. For example, they may have very different motivations than an NT child.
Hope that helps

I had More Than Words when DS2 was 3.5 yo and wish I'd had it earlier. It was the first time I recognised my DS in any book I'd read and it gave me great insights into why he behaved the way he did. I think the trade in is a great idea! How much is MTWords on Amazon? Winslow Press are generally a cheap source, but they are £34 ish I think. I'll have a google.

It's just as cheap on Amazon, but sadly out of stock.

i can only talk for more than words. If you can find a local course, its wonderful as the book is quite hard going.

Hi,
Thanks for all the info, I like the sound of 'it gives a different approach' as although the ITTTT book is great and ive had lots of good ideas from there some things just dont work with DD! (it is very hard to get & keep her attention to do some of the things they suggest for example. If shes not interested I have no chance of getting info through, she just blanks me out completely lol!)
I had the other one from winslow and it was the cheapest place I was able to find it. I have tryed ebay for second hand copies but there never seems to be any and had no luck in the library either.
Unfortunately if I trade in with amazon I only get credit to spend on their site I think so I might re-read ITTTT and then try again to see if back in stock, thanks it definately has made my mind up to get this book one way or another.

It's a great course! Our local NHS only run it occasionally, though.
