In the Gaurdian
Headteachers admit illegally excluding pupils
and
"Wolfe said some academies were refusing to comply with official guidance on exclusions. He also claimed some were refusing to admit children with statements."

That's refreshing.

Unlike the HT of my ds's old school who illegally excluded him, realized her illegal actions and only then tried to implement appropriate measures instead of exclusion to take into account that his behaviour was a direct result of his disability.

However, at the same time she wrote to me and denied that the school had done anything wrong - that was just after asking me to take my ds home early every day!

I don't deny that it is out of order, but the system as it stands means that schools are expected to be inclusive without knowing how to do it within their costs.

This is the dark side to league tables and the current oftstead regime. It's set to get worse as accountablity is reduced for academies compared to schools still under LEA control.

Teachers are also not trained to teach many types of SEN. (1 afternoon and a 2.5k word essay on a typical PGCE course doesn't begin to qualify them!)

No shit sherlock! We could have told the Guardian that years ago.

Funnily enough DS school turned into an academy in Sept just gone and all has gone wrong since then including the "pick up your son" requests. Enough said.............
