just wondering if any of you have any ideas or thoughts on this, i've tried asking for advice from people but getting none.

ds is biting himself, but he's not doing out of anger or anything he does it like an automatic response when he's tickled arm straight to his mouth or sometimes when he's over excited or sometimes when hes hurt. i've been advised to ignore it but a part of me wants to know why he does it or if i can stop him doing it.

also he's started sucking his hands alot, hes 3 years old and nevr done this before even as a baby he had a dummy but its long gone so i dont understand why hes doing this now. he does bite his nails so maybe the habits stemmed from there? hes a prolific nose picker too then he eats it and i cannot stop him

Hi,
My child does this too and I have been told it is oral motor sensory seeking. You can get lots of info online. I have been recommended by the occupational therapist to give my child something to suck eg petit filou through a straw or milkshake, blow whistles or bubbles or giving him something to chew eg jellies or crunchy food. I bought a chewy tube for him to chew on so he doesn't chew his clothes. Hope this helps.
