Where have you been already? Who dx Dyspraxia?

How sure are you that ds has some kind of asd?

RTKangaMummy · 01/02/2006 19:01

He was dx with his hypermobility and dyspraxia by the

GP sending to Paed consultant to physio to OT and SALT

We didn't do anything we kind of went with the flow

I hadn't even heard of DYSPRAXIA before that

he had a problem with his legs and couldn't walk so that was why it all happened

We had put all his problems down to being extremely premature

I rang the Autistic helpline yesterday

and cried my eyes out while I was describing DS to the very kind lady

I was telling her about DS "policing" and rule keeping

his bouncing

his behaviour when children come round here

his roaring until last year.

his not reading facial expressions or knowing when it is the right time to talk and when not

DH was talking to another parent this afternoon {who has known him for 7 years} and she said that the senior school he is going to will suit his

ECCENTRIC WAYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is a friend and so wasn't being horrible but that is how everyone sees him

Yesterday one of the class said "why can't you just play XXXXXXXXX ????" when he was trying to stop them from swinging on the basketball posts

He wants them to stop cos it is wrong and dangerous

I showed him the olympic symbol circles and tried to explain that everything was linked

I told him that he had to pretend to be a policeman who hadn't got his uniform on and so was NOT allowed to tell others what not to do

He says he can't see the world in any other way than balack or white when I said he should try to see it in grey

RTKM - I think your first port of call is your GP. Who could send you to a CAMHS near you to have a full assessment.

RTKangaMummy · 01/02/2006 20:53

socci we are nw london

I would just like to know if it is just part of his dyspraxia or whether it is more than that

yesterday I was in such a state

I like people to tell the truth and prefer Drs etc to do that

If you would like to email me

rtkangamummy at yahoo dot co dot uk

I think it would help him socially in that when he goes to senior school none of his friends from primary are going with him so he will be starting again

and cos his social skills are so immature - which I know can happen with dyspraxia

and so if he had a DX others may understand why he behaves how he does iyswim

rather than just WEIRD or eccentric

which is how people see him atm

Aww Kanga

Your ds sounds far from weird. Personally I love my dd's eccentric personailty, life would be so boring if we were all the same.
From the things you have posted he sounds like such a nice, lovely boy and he would be having a mum like you xxx

RTKangaMummy · 01/02/2006 21:05

BH thanks

we love him how he is but it is others who make him sad with their comments and teasing

and so if there is anything we can do to help him we would like to try

RTKM, I had no idea that you are in NW London, so am I! Which borough are you in? What about your NHS Dev Paed? I will email you tomorrow if that's OK, I'm sure I can find someone from my vast NW network who can advise/help. Just think, we could meet and discuss the Radio Times together! Sorry, you must be feeling shit and all I care about is Life On Mars!

RTKangaMummy · 02/02/2006 11:43

Socci has very kindly sent me the details of a lady in kent

I will talk it over with DH tonight

Thanks davos

Sorry you're dealing with all this, RTKM.

After following Kangaboys progress with his acting, singing and exams I almost feel like I 'know him IYSWIM. He sounds lovely.

Good luck with the dx process. xx

Thanks CT

It is soooooooo strange because one side of him is this clever bright boy who is a deffo brill actor and then there is this other side of him that people and other children call him weird and eccentric

And he has these behaviour traits like trying to "police" others and seeing things in black and white or right and wrong

And the bouncing he does to de-stress

As he is changing schools in september we are worried how he will manage with all new children

who will just see him as he is now rather than growing up with him and so are used to his weird little iddiosyncrices

He has a problem with the others wanting him to swear BUT he sees it as really wrong and so they have been tormenting him and then one boy putting him in a head lock because he wouldn't

here is the other thread

If there is anything that can be done to help him then we want to give it a try

I would like to get some social stories esp about rules and "policing" and social interation
