Ds(7) is moving to ms juniors in September. So all yr2 parents went for a meeting to hear about the transition. Our recent ofstead report raised some concerns about teaching standards in the middle years but said that SN support was good. My ds is statemented for 19hrs and most of the time is doing well. Well we're all sat there and daily mail reading mum pipes up that they are not doing anything for the achievers and just helping non-achievers (SN children). I wanted to fly over the heads of the other parents and pummel her into the parquet flooring - everyday is an achievement for my ds. Luckily two other parents interceded her attack and basically told her that maybe she should go and seek another school. What is so hilarious us that the bigot mum's ds recieves support with reading and maths!!!
Anyhow the new HT gives her speech and says that SEN is something close to her heart as in her previous schools she has been head of senco and inclusion respectively. I spoke to her afterward and she said that her neice and nephew both ASD are home schooled because they had a horrendous time in various primary schools. So I'm thinking (initially) hooray good for ds. BUT I can't get rid if that niggly doubt that ultimately she has been brought in to make changes to the school and improve it. A quick fix is to clear out your SN dc especially if she has personal experience of home schooling being a positive thing.
Now I know I'm getting way ahead of myself but I can't push it out of my head .....

Why has she been brought in? What were the concerns of Ofsted? I would look at this.
Just to encourage you, my DCs school has (and has had for a long time) a lot of kids with various SN (ASD, Downes, Sight issues, life limiting, and others I'm not sure how to categorise). It is and always has been OFSTED Outstanding, it does also do well by those recognised as G and T. It is possible to do lots of things well at once.

The jist of the report is that basically 2 teachers in the middle of the school ate not up to scratch - these teachers are nearing retirement and I think are already on wind down time. I'm actually not concerned tbh because I'm confident this will change. Just worried that they will pick the SN children to show a marked improvement quickly - although the issue isn't with the children it's actually with two teachers. You might think two teachers shouldnt make a difference but its a tiny school so it shows

The HT is making all the right noises, at least. My DS's primary school head didn't even bother with that. Try not to worry, not as if you can do anything, and if she was SENCo and INCo at least she has some interest in the subject.

No. I would be over the moon with a HT like that pending her attitude to working in partnership with parents!

Thanks, she is attending all senco transition meetings so I'll probably get a better feel for her then. Our jnrs is on a different site so it's a lot of change for ds....... Being a SN parent I think makes a wee bit paranoid as you are constantly on the alert........
