I usually reply with this one (nicked from Pagwatch):

"Yes! DS can fly!"

Apparently my son (4) does have one. He brought home a swimming certificate with a photograph of a fish as the background, listing his achievements.

I asked him to show DH and tell him what it was for.

"It is because I can turn into a Puffer-fish!", he said.

Sleep is for mere humans like Mums, not superpowered Aliens like DS. (ouvyre - I hear your plea!).

Other superpowers

  • the ability to hear the adult confidential conversations of the neighbours 2 doors down. I do wish she'd stop describing her new blokes privates to her mates cos DS then tells me on the way to school and he has no volume control Blush
  • a wicked pallette - meals cooked by my sister when DS helps taste infinitely better than any she makes alone. Her hubby virtually locks him in the kitchen with her when she decides to cook us a family dinner.
  • a voice that carries long distances
FlyingFig · 15/03/2012 11:23

In a blindfold-test, DS could sniff out any brand of sweetcorn that isn't Green Giant Grin

SallyBear · 15/03/2012 11:27

Just goes to show that they are all very funny in their own little way. Grin

ReindeerBollocks · 15/03/2012 11:45

DS can make coke squirt out of his PEG stomach.

Is that classed as cheating?

saintlyjimjams · 15/03/2012 12:58

I used to say weeing on the carpet on demand, but actually ds1 does have one now Smile

SallyBear · 15/03/2012 13:12

Saintly! That really is clever!

saintlyjimjams · 15/03/2012 13:16

He can find places he went to when he was 2 (and has never been back). My Dad bought a new car (new make) - he immediately put the google man down by a dealers for the make in Scotland (we live in south west England) - we drove past there once last year Hmm

All self taught! He's 12, & non-verbal with SLD's - we couldn't begin to teach him that stuff. Grin (well I can't do it anyway!)

SallyBear · 15/03/2012 13:20

I have a good memory for places, journeys etc. But nowhere near as good as your DS!

saintlyjimjams · 15/03/2012 13:26

I know - but I think his ability probably does border on savant (we had never asked him to find a purple bus before btw - and you can do that with anything - I said for example 'find S's house' - he went straight there despite having been ONCE, SEVEN years ago!!!) Grin

WilsonFrickett · 15/03/2012 13:59

Mine is extremely talented at repeating back everything we say to him. With the word why attached:

Me: DS don't argue (yes and I KNOW that isn't concrete language either!)
DS: Why are you arguing?
Me: No, you are arguing with me
DS: Yes, why are you arguing with me? I don't like arguing.
etc etc. Am training him up for covert ops Grin

Inexplicably though he's a bit shit at maths and can't count cards....

SallyBear · 15/03/2012 14:17

Hee hee Wilson! My DS1 isn't great at Maths or counting cards, but he could quote you endless useless facts about any manner of ancient civilisation, Tudor history, animal facts etc. His twin sister will flounce out the room when he starts making "sparkling dinner conversation" with these interesting facts. Personally I think that he does it on purpose!

coff33pot · 15/03/2012 14:22

anyone had a conversation about the inside of a ping pong ball? through lunch.....after lunch......on way to park.......stopped and played......now where was I oh yes on way back from park......through dinner then stopped due to Dad arriving Grin

WilsonFrickett · 15/03/2012 14:30

I'd like to have that conversation coff Grin

Must also repeat this one because I'm still laughing about it, tho 'tis a slight hi-jack:

DS school has just introduced a 'house' system...
Me: What house are you in DS?
Him: Vulcans!
Me (quietly impressed at school's brilliance. That's going to hook the non-NT's like billio): Cool! What are the other houses?
Him: Eagles and Hawks.
Me (after very, very long pause): Falcon. You're a Falcon...
Him: Yeah, I said that. Vulcan, I'm a vulcan Mummy. Mummy, why is a vulcan?
Me: ...

coff33pot · 15/03/2012 14:44

hahaha! oh bless! I love it! Grin

the convo goes..........inside my ping pong ball its dark...........unless a tiny bird pops a hole in it with its beak then its light...........if not then its still very dark......so dark that the little people that keep the inside of the ball clean cant see.........how do they keep it clean? well they tap on the inside and the little bird hears on the outside..........the little people cant see the outside of course because there is no hole and its dark..........Confused.........and so the little bird stops it being dark by putting a little hole in the ping pong ball so now they can see..........did you know the little bird cant see inside because the hole is too small..........if his eye covered the hole it would be then dark and the little people would be angry as if it is dark they cant clean the inside of the ping pong ball...............AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! trust me it gets better and the ball got cleaned eventually after about 5 hours? Grin

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/03/2012 14:47

Tell me, am I the only one to google Eagle, Vulcan, Hawk just in case there's some, I don't know, aeroplane? connection. (There isn't) Grin

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/03/2012 14:54

coff33pot · 15/03/2012 14:58

Avro Vulcan 1960 - 1970
Bae Hawk 1970 - 1980

Oh there is a Blackbird and a Falcon toooo Grin

coff33pot · 15/03/2012 14:59

little man wants to be a Vulcan now he can be a Vulcan Grin

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/03/2012 15:04

I thought I'd heard of Vulcan bombers and Hawks, etc. That'll teach me to stop googling and put out a challenge on this board... Grin Probably is birds of prey, though, I suppose.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/03/2012 15:05

Not a Star Trek connection, though!

2old2beamum · 15/03/2012 15:10

My DD (downs) 22 thinks she could do Cameron's job

lionheart · 15/03/2012 15:42

Wow, Coff33 and Moose, my DS does is rankings obsessed too. He is toying with a career as a film censor. He is 6. Grin

And he has turned all my 18 dvds back to front (to save me from myself, I suppose). Smile

WilsonFrickett · 15/03/2012 19:42

Coff and Ellen you just made me splurt tea onto my screen. You guys are brilliant Grin

saladsandwich · 15/03/2012 21:46

my ds could do peg board jigsaws from 16months by 2 years he could do 25 piece ones (if he liked the picture) unfortunately he's regressed a bit and can only master 4 piece ones now.

knew all his colours even silver, gold ect, whether they where light or dark, bright or pale before 2 and half.

hes a world class tantrum thrower, he can nap for an hour inbetween and carry a tantrum on!
