Alternative to maclaren major elite?

DS's maclaren major is knackered. A combination of it being nearly 3 years old and carting about a very tall, heavy boy who doesn't like to sit still!

We are waiting on a reassessment for a new chair (app next monday) and was just wondering if anyone could recommend anything similar in the special needs pushchair range?

Can I choose from chairs that are suitable for DS or is it a case of you get what they give you? How does it work if I want one but it's more expensive than NHS are willing to pay out? Can I put money to?

I was just so glad to get a maclaren last time - (it's been a godsend) that I didn't take much notice of how it all worked and what options there were.

I am just going to go do the bedtime ordeal, will be back on later.
If anyone has any advice or recommendations I'd be grateful. Smile

It really depends what his needs are, does he need any physical support or additions?
We swapped from a major to a wheelchair when ds2 was about 5.

quite a lot of choice if he has physical needs (ie needs a lot of support) or has walking difficulties that mean you need to be looking at wheelchairs, but if it is mainly for a behavioural reason, the major is probably the solution, tbh.

we had an sn babyjogger that went up to 10+ (three wheeler that could go anywhere) but dd2 hated it because of the recline - she couldn't see enough. the major was far better for being upright and interacting with environment etc. she switched to a wheelchair for school because of the peer group thing.

Sorry should have mentioned in my OP, his only disability is his ASD. He gets tired when we're out but doesn't have any physical conditions that impair his walking (maybe a little clumsier than a NT child, and a little less spatial awareness but nothing huge). He runs off, hides, runs into people (I'm not sure whether on purpose or not but he does it A LOT), panics in busy places, that kind of thing.

We've got on fine with the maclaren major overall, but DS seems too big for it now. He's only 7 but he's massive, in 9-10 clothes and towers over his classmates, he's broad too so there's a fair bit of weight to him as well as height!

The guy who came to repair again (and couldn't) mentioned my area's wheelchair services aren't giving majors out as much any more, whereas when DS got his it was quite the opposite.
