Hello, I got these results after DS was assessed at 6 yrs 6 months

Word Discrimination 6.2 yrs 50(Percentile rank)

Phonological segmentation 6.7 yrs 75

phonological blending 7.1 yrs 75

Number memory forward 4.4 yrs 16

Number memory reversed 6.0 yrs 50

Word memory 5.0 yrs 37

Sentence memory 5.0 yrs 25

Auditory comprehension 10.6 yrs 95

Auditory reasoning 7.10 yrs 75

Just wondering how there could be such a huge difference between Number memory forward/reversed...curious bout it all really.

Not an ed psych so only guessing but... Is he perhaps very, very bright and using complex mental manipulations to compensate for having a shockingly poor instant memory? Number memory, sentence memory, word memory. Does word discrimination mean remember both words and compare / distinguish? If so, that would fit.

Backward digits is more active, maybe he can remember stuff if he's working hard doing something with it. The massive range in scores is a bit like many asd children have, it's called a spiky profile and it is troublesome to teach in a group. This pattern of strengths and weaknesses isn't similar to my asd son or the other few reports I've seen (wisc iv but similar)

I reckon this is a bit like someone who can't remember a phone no by just repeating it over in their head so they use fancy tricks like oh yes, greenwich area code then nan's front door then mum's age. School may tell you it's all within average except comprehension which he's wonderful at : whilst true, it's not sufficient.

Dolfrog is good at this auditory processing stuff, you could post asking him?

Thanks Maria...I have tried googling to get a better understanding of what it all means but I'm I was still none the wiser Confused.

He does tend to tell me that his brain doesn't work properly it 'gets smaller and smaller until it shrivels' especially when he is doing his maths.

And yes it does say that he is working within the norm...but unfortunatly he isn't showing it in lesson therefore is below the curriculum levels.
