At long last my ds has a proper diagnosis. This has come as a real relief and explains all the behaviours, etc.

What help is out there for us? larsxx

It really depends what you mean by help lars tbh.

Are you talking financially, respite, education?

Really glad that you finally got a dx and has helped explain things. I know it hasn't been easy for you xx

thanks blossomhill, I know I 've not be on mumsnet lately and it's really nice to know i'm not forgotten.
BTW THE NEW SCHOOL ARE GREAT WITH DS!!!

I now don't work was made redundant, time of etc didn't help. I've decided it is better I stay at home at the moment, but finacially this is a struggle. so finacial would help, dh works but is having a very difficult time at work at present. We have been under alot of stress.

Lars xx

Do you get DLA or carers allowance?

Blossomhill · 31/01/2006 17:04

Really glad the school are good too. Makes such a difference

DLA (get the high rate) Carers allowance (Get a carers assessment from your social worker if u have one) Mobility, if your child is 3 and above.

Social fund grants.

What other kind of "help" do you mean??

mamadadawahwah · 01/02/2006 11:42

Is your child in school yet? Have you had him statemented? Even if he is not in school yet, you can get him statemented now via a parental request for statutory assessment. It takes at least six months to go through the process and possibly years to get what you want!! depending on what you want.

lars · 01/02/2006 13:48

Thanks for all your advice, BTW ds is statemented.

Definitely apply for DLA. If you need help filling in the horrible form(s) then give us a shout.

If you get DLA you may well also get your tax credits topped up (if you get tax credits, of course!).

Depending on your income you could also apply to the Family Fund for help. I think the max income is £23,000 but I could be wrong.

Good luck!

octavia · 05/02/2006 14:43

I didn't know you could get financial help

Davros · 05/02/2006 16:28

Carer's Allowance is independent of Soc Svs. But Soc Svs can also give you £££ and/or practical help if they deem you need support and you need to request an assessment for that. Don't forget to find out about local charities who may run playschemes, offer therapies etc at very low rates.

Many thanks for all your replies. larsxx

and dont forget you can claim carers allowance too

lars · 06/02/2006 15:18

Regarding family funds what can you apply for?

As for the DLA can you get the high amount for mobility? The reason I say this I find it very difficult when shopping witH DS when he has a major outburst he runs away and screams and shouts and I have to try and get him back to the car ASAP to calm him down and for his own safety. I am normally parked miles away and he is now older and I can't physically carry him anymore, one kind lady ( customer) helped me carrying him out of Tesco to my car which was parked along way away. I have found it really stressful and wonder if I could get a badge so I could park near?
Am I asking for too much? larsxx

tobysmumkent, thanks for that, what kind of things do I need to put down i.e for the mobility to get the higher rate reading the details it goes on about not being able to walk, etc. Well ds can walk it's just his extreme behaviour that's the problem some days he can be ok, but you never can tell. larsxx

tobysmumkent, thanks for that it has been very helpful and think I'll put down the tesco trip, etc. Another was when out shopping he run away and starting screaming and shouting outside the library and refused to walk with me. Like I said I cannot physcially carry him anymore and this is a real struggle for me. larsxx
