my 4yr ds has severe verbal dyspraxia/apraxia and we have started the statement process. My almost 3yr ds has only a handful of words that are intelligable. he is on the waiting list to see a speech therapist, but he is so unclear its painful.
Both boys behaviour is dipping, and I do feel its frustration. I am very unsure if this is a delay or disorder in the younger one and am eager to get him into speech therapy.
what I was wanting to know, is do any of you have more than one child with speech disorders or one with a disorder and one with a delay?
it is draining but we are seeing improvement in my 4yr old, although he is still on the 1st percentile line.
has anyone managed to get their dc into nursery early for speech reasons? his nursery has 2 intakes so I would hope to get him in in september when the class was smaller but am not sure if this is just fantasy.
just general advise will be greatly recieved from one emotionally tired mummy.

Soft palate issues and physically being Tongue tied can also be issues. You could try and see a Speech Pathologist. GOS have them. Dr Debbie Sell's team is worth a visit.

my ds has the same speech as my brother, swapping the beginning letter of a word round so i do think it runs in families but as a child i copied my brothers pronunciations until i started school.

you could try a sure start childrens centre, ds managed to get a nursery place from 2years

I phoned the speech therapist office today as we are nearing the end of a six month wait for speech therapy, to be told its now nearer 9mths. I am so cross, he needs help now. even if its just giving me work to do with him. I am not impressed that they didnt tell me about the extended waiting time.
we have just recieved a letter from his pre sch saying they are shutting in july, which means as he is a jan intake for nursery, he will have no pre sch for autumn. I am going to ask the head if he could not start in the sep intake but was hopeing that if he was under speech therapy he might have more of a case. now he wont be so there goes that argument.
we are looking at a speech unit tommorow in the hope that my 4yr old gets his statement. I am very confused if my 3yr old will have the same need, and everything goes on about early intervention, but how do you get that? does anyone like a g.p or pre sch teacher have more influence than me to ask for him to get help? confused.com
