anybody claimed recently? we have claimed from them before and got a few things, one of them being the holiday grant £380, well it's changed, my mate has just been awarded £1000 for a holiday they put it into an account for you with barrhead travel and so you have to book throu them, i have had a quick look and they do haven, centreparcs, disneyland paris and loads of other holidays, this is brill news.

What else can they help with? We are desperately in need of another car. In the last month I've spent more than the car is worth just keeping it on the road and it still needs 2 tyres and a new exhaust. It's also too small to fit the major buggy in which causes problems. Well, it will fit behind the front seats but dd who is 10 next month has to sit with her knees under her chin which can't be safe. Do you think the family fund would help with something like this?

I got £380 for a holiday yesterday.

onlyjoking9329 · 30/01/2006 13:22

they can help with transport costs, but only if your child does not get high rate mobility.

Pixel. do you get mobility? use the money from thaT FOR A CAR.

will ask for a holiday this year, can reapply for april.

beep · 30/01/2006 13:24

I also got money to help pay for visiting dd1 in hospital when she has her op.

onlyjoking9329 · 30/01/2006 13:32

have just phoned the family fund to check when i shoul re-apply, asked if the holday fund had changed, she said they were doing a trial and are trying it with first claims.

I hope that they give you options with the holiday grant as dont fancy going somewhere like mentioned for the purpose that i go camping for 2 weeks and it pays for the pitch, food and other extras that i end up buying!!!!!!!!

Last year i got £380 and spent it on a new tent plus all equipment needed as well as the pitch and food etc.....

It would be a shame to limit the options that we have as i feel with my dd and ds the great outdoors is the best place for them with plenty of space and beutiful scenery [oh and it doesnt cost as much].

i think you are safe for a while as they are just trying it out on first claims.

Oh, thats ok then, starting to panick then as i can reapply in april and have already booked 2 weeks off work to go in the first week of august with friends.

onlyjoking9329 · 30/01/2006 14:27

mines due in april but she told me to apply now as there is 3/4 month backlog, she also told me to apply three times once for each child, i have one ever applied once with all three kids on the one form.

Misdee, we only get low rate mobility. I've been wondering whether to appeal because I can barely lift ds now, let alone carry him. He's only 7lb lighter than my 10 yo and I'm only 5'2"!

I'm going to be really stuck if the car packs up because the only way I can collect both children is to have ds delivered to dd's school and drive them both home from there. Do you think that would have any bearing on it, or is it 'just' medical reasons taken into account?

Sorry Onlyjoking for hijacking

onlyjoking9329 · 30/01/2006 14:40

why do you only get low rate mobility if you are having to carry him?

OP posts:
Pixel · 30/01/2006 14:51

I've only been getting that since last year. Perhaps I should have appealed then? I have to carry him because he lies on the floor. Sometimes he will get up straight away but other times he won't budge at all. We practice walking to the local shop but he won't stand up at all in there. I don't like to leave him on the floor while I pay in case he runs out into the main road so I have to lift him up to stand in the queue.

When I saw your thread I just wondered if claiming a one-off payment to get a second-hand car would be easier than going the mobility allowance route.

buzylizy · 30/01/2006 15:20

sorry to butt in but do appeal. I was given the middle rate care coponent for my dd and appealed and got the higher one. you have nothing to loose and everything to gain.

macwoozy · 30/01/2006 15:25

I get high rate care DLA for my ds, but not mobility, would I still qualify for this family fund. If so, who would I ring, is it the SS? Do you have to book a holiday first and then get the grant?

Graciefer · 31/01/2006 14:16

how long does the process take because i want to apply for a new buggy but it's getting a bit desparate so cant wait much longer

or is there an option i can buy it before the money comes?? i have the money but not to spend on a buggy iykwim

Graciefer · 31/01/2006 14:20

Pixel · 31/01/2006 14:44

Just posted a letter to see if I can get a higher rate of mobility allowance. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
