hi there

my son who is 6 in June was diagnosed privately with high functioning autism. since then ive had no advise on what to do next, he is in school and got his statement in December. he is doing well and my tactic's on dealing with his individual problems seem to be helping but i have realised that he has delayed echolalia as the reciting has always been my biggest worry. he has all the classic symptoms and his memory is amazing ive read a lot about it and it seems as though its recognised as a good sign but i want to know what i can do to help him use it at appropriate times as i know i cant actually stop it.
im finding it very difficult to know where to start so would anyone know of any support groups ect that we could go to.
i live in surrey..

Hi zooloo,

There is a National Autistic Society (Surrey Branch). You could perhaps approach them first and they might help you find a group near you.

Do you get any help from Autism Outreach around your area? If so, perhaps you could approach them with this question. Also if you have SALT you could ask the therapist for help.

With my ds, I say yes, you have said that already now we will not talk about it anymore and try to change the topic or extend it to ask a question related to it.
