What report should we get from Psyc?

We have now had 7 app. With Psychaitrist privately. Ds is on low dose meds for anxiety. We have been told there is diagnosis of HFA but gold standard is 3 diagnosis from Salt and ed Psyc as well as Psychaitrist. It will take ages to get those coz they are LA and there is long waiting list. We should have gone up the list coz he is now missing school but still could be long wait. What was your Psychaitrist report like? Did school take notice of just 1 report? Nice guidelines just make it more difficult! Surely a Psychaitrist diagnosis if they have a lot of experience with ASD, which ours does, is enough. To go to so many app with v anxious Dc makes it worse!

My last app. Is on thurs. although Ds is still v anxious i think meds are helping. I have tried to find out and I think report will be done at a later date when we have the other 2 reports. Then the 3 reports tie in together for the school. What were your reports like?

Hi, bumping this for you :)
I haven't gone privately, but our psych assessment by the NHS started off with several pages detailing observations by myself, backed up with if they had observed the behaviour themselves. Then about half page detailing the dx of AS and what that meant, then a couple of pages saying what help he would need in school and at home, and how often he needed reviewing.

School were happy with the one report, but the first thing they asked was "It was done by the NHS not by a private quack?" I guess implying that if I paid for it it may not be accurate Hmm, so not sure how much weight they would have given to it if it was.

Thanks littlemissgreen. Just gives me idea of what to expect. I did check our Psyc works for NHS full time and is specialist in this area so I think he will be respected. He said there is dx of ASD but it's taking long time to get report for school and my Ds is only in school part time as he not coping well at all. I worry school will run out of patience and think we need report for them to help more?

Hi flow- our private psych report was along same lines as littlemissgreen's-several pages of our experiences, psych's observations, explanations and then recommendations as regards school, future etc. It was accepted no problem by school and thus enabled support network to kick in. Surely if yours is from a reputable psych, who works in NHS, it will be fully accepted!Confused. Incidentally Flow, I was thinking of you at the weekend- I took delivery of a book I ordered on Amazon called"Aspergers-what does it mean to me?" by Catherine Faherty. It is quite good-a workbook style book which ds fills in and also lots of reading for adults/advice etc.We started it yesterday and ds is finding it good. Its expensive -about £25 but seems to be helpful.Hope the process speeds up for you flow- its dragging out a bit isnt it?Angry.

Thanks PenneySmile it feels like its taking forever I'm just impatient coz I want to help Ds. So awful seeing him anxious all the time.
Have even thought about new school but not really any better options. Going to stay put for now and keep encouraging him to go in for as long as poss.
Had a look at that book thanks it seems really good will keep in mind for when he feeling bit better. Hope your Ds getting on ok.
