Hi all, dd starts preschool in Sept. The only professional she now sees is a developmental peadiatrician awaiting further assessment, we don't get portage anymore. Her nursery application has gone in and I did write on their that she doesn't have a STatement SEN but at present was being seen by some profs and had a few difficulties with social interaction etc.
So wondering what will happen next?? Will school get in touch with me about things??? Or will it be a case of turn up on first day and hope that things don't go badly tits up when I drop her on their doorstep?!!!

I don't THINK she needs a STatement however its been a long time since she was left in a nursery setting (last time when she was 15 months old) and back then she screamed relentlessly and starved herself for the entire day! I do think she needs some extra support though as she dislikes noisy busy places and isn't keen on other kids so really a nursery is her worst nightmare!!! I've a feeling she will just shut down completely.
Thanks in advance

Hi chundle, have just seen this thread and thought I would answer.

Firstly in Nursery/Preschool she would go on to Early years Action or Early years Action plus, this is the same as school action but for early years obviouslyBlush

Your setting should have a system that they will follow, Is is a school nursery or an independent VIP setting [ volutary, independent, private]. Which ever it is they should have a SENCO and an Area Early Years SENCO or advisory team.

If I were you I would make an appointment with the SENCO as soon as you get offered a place and begin the transition. you need to tell them how often you want to bring her etc. You can aslo dicuss EYA and EYAP while you are thereGrin

If it is a VIP stting do they run a toddler group or stay and play? If they do I would go as many times as you ca, then your Dd will be familiar with the room and will hopefully settle better when she starts going it alone in September.

I am off to bed [tough week] but will be around over the weeked and will check back on the thread, or you can pm me.Smile

Fab thanks ineeda its a standard school run nursery/preschool not VIP :)
With school action will I have to apply for this or should the school automatically be notified / know about dd and do the school action thing anyway?

The senco is actually my dd1s teacher so we do see him every day which is good

My ds started preschool at 2, around the time I was starting to have real concerns, at around 2.5, I had a meeting with the preschool manager, who was also the SENCO, as a result of that meeting he was put on EYA, then I requested that EY inclusion services get invloved, and the preschool SENCO arranged this and he went up to EYAP, with a specialist Autism teacher, who will continue to support him/us/school, going forward.

Obviously different LA's have different procedures, so I would suggest the same as Ineedalife, that you request a meeting to start the ball rolling, and go from there.

In my setting we start off by filling in an initial concerns sheet and getting the parents on board, which you obviously are.

Then if we need to we can move the child straight to Early years action or action plus. Have never gone straight to action plus in my setting but I know you can do it if the child is being seen by outside agencies. We can get the Early years advisor in at any point during the process [when she can squeeze us in], and we ca speak to Ed Psych's by phone for advice.

As Baboos said it might vary from place to place. And don't forget I am not in a school setting so it could vary there too, although I know there is more continuity since EYFS.

You would be best to speak to the senco.

Good luckSmile
