SALT - DD won't speak to them so they'll never get a reasonable assessment - what to do?

DD is 2.5 and I self referred to SALT at 21 mo as she had only a couple of words. Hearing tests were done staright away and an assessment at 2.0 by SALT declared an expressive speech delay, with comprehension normal for a child of that age. SInce then we have ahd 2 appts where DD has barely spoken, and SALT has been in several times to nursery to work with DD and some others; again , she ahs barely spoken. We were given some exercisese to do with DD , but I feel that now she has made good progress and is using 3/4/5 words at a time, they are too basic. they probably reflect what SALT have heard though.

Will they go with what I tell them DD can manage, or how can I get DD to talk in front of people? SHe will only talk at nursery or with us, where she obviously feels comfortable, not on playdates, with GPs or definitely not to strangers.

I have no idea how she will cope when she moves into pre school after the summer Sad

Just to say my daughter 3 years 9 months is the same. She has been under SALT since she was about 2 years and it is very hard to get a true assessment of where she is. However, daughter has been getting a bit better since she has been working with the same therapist who sees her in clinic and then at nursery. Does your daughter see the same person? In our experience they do listen to what we tell them our daughter can do but that doesn't help with assessments as they can only mark on what they see so our daughter scored really low on the CELF Preschool tests she had recently.
My partner has taken to doing videos of her at home following an unsuccessful course of language groups where she said hardly anything in each of the 6 sessions.
Our daughter started preschool at nursery in September and really has been struggling but has recently got an inclusion grant so gets some 1:1 time at nursery with her keyworker. She is also on Early Years Action Plus so has an IEP and has targetted activities. Are these things you could consider for your daughter?
I can't really give any advice on how to get your daughter to talk in public - as I struggle with this with my DD.
Good luck
Michelle

yes, it has been the same one in clinic and at nursery. SHe was a little better at the last nursery session but even at nursery, she doesnt speak nearly as much as at home. She has really come on although her pronunciation os still prett ybad, but she is starting to use verbs, and on the odd occasion, I have wanted her to be quiet, which I never thought would happen!

I have no qualms about accepting any sort of help, or IEP or anything. Anything that may bring her on!

I guess I could get DH to video us when we're doing a puzzle, playing wiht her animals or looking at a book or something, that might work.
