My DS has been out of school for over 2 year with numerous issues. He has had a home tutor provided by the LA for nearly a year. Yesterday the tutor said: DS won't go to education so we brought the education to him, he still refuses so what next??

He also remarked he was looking through DS school files and there is nothing about things he is doing written in any reports!!

Just to recap people especially those who don't know, DS has always been special school, is 11yo, primarily down syndrome.

Any ideas what to do now?

I wish I had some answers but feeling the worst person in the world to advise as we are now on to our 2nd child who won't go to school. Trying to block out dd ranting at me as I'm writing this.

When ds was out of school and started being home tutored he was reasonably engaged but after about a year he became gradually more disaffected. If he hadn't started at special school a few months later he would have ground to a complete halt too.

It's not on that no-one seems to be keeping records of ds' progress or in this case lack of it. It seems like out of sight out of mind. Do you think it would make any difference to change the tutor or to introduce more than one tutor? Could you ask for an emergency review to address his lack of progress/engagement?

Sorry if this is all stuff you've already thought of.

what worked for my ds was finding the right placement, but even that hasn't been easy. I really don't think he could have gone to any other setting than where he is right now. We looked at the LEA SS and another independent SS, neither of which would have suited at all. His present school have had to make big adjustments to help him to cope with the environment. It's still a struggle to get him there.
The home tutor was a disaster for my ds as well.
