I have been single Mum, of one severly disabled thirteen year old DS, since 2005 and single for three years.

Do any of you that are single parents of disabled child/children think we have far less chance of finding a Husband or Wife?

For the mere fact one or more of our children has SN?

Just fear being rejected because of this, maybe over and over if I were to date :(

Thanks for reading, at least x

It's finding the TIME that scuppers me.

Noone who has asked me for a coffee has been under any illusions re my child, simply cos he's always with me. Trouble is a "date" needs at least the illusion of privacy and I've used family to help too often with school emergencies to risk wasting goodwill on summat as frivoulous as dating iyswim.

It does upset me sometimes as I'm the wrong side of 40 and would have loved to have another child.

Yes, it is harder and I definitely think the idea of helping to support a family with a child with SN is too daunting for a lot of men. I was single for five years but was very lucky that my parents could cope with babysitting DS (ASD), so I had the opportunity to date and eventually meet DH.

I found it a real struggle to find time to date, there are limited opportunities to go out and it meant not being able to do other things like going out with girlfriends or evening classes - so it meant prioritising time for dates. My family were happy to support me as they hoped it would mean I would meet someone who could eventually make mine and DS's lives better, which it really has Smile.

DH is lovely, he has learned about DS's SN and accepted the fact that I can't work because I'm caring for DS, which is a big responsibility for him. I am sure there are many more good men like him out there, so don't give up hope Smile.
