Hi all - we've just got back from seeing a new paediatrician. DS is being assessed for challenging behaviour - he's only 3.5 yrs. He's always been a handful and is due to start school in Sept so we're trying to get him some help for when he starts. Today the doctor has suggested we try a low or no salicylate diet - I've NEVER heard of this!! Can anyone offer any advice or point me in the right direction for a list of foods that are ok? He doesn't eat very much at all at the best of times but it seems he likes all the foods he's not going to be allowed now! Has anyone had any success with this sort of diet? thank you xx

Try a page like this salicylatesensitivity.com/about/food-guide/
Most diets are about trial and error - look on the lists for each of the food types and see what is naturally low in salicylates that your DS likes, what you could swap other higher content foods for and get a good weeks worth of diets worked out. Give it a few months and you'll be the expert.

Salicylate is aspirin essentially but it is a natural substance and present in quite a lot of foods.

It is present in fruit and veg, herbs and spices www.foodcanmakeyouill.co.uk/salicylate/index.html
