To my shame, yes :(
Brought back memories of birth no 1 for me. Quite upsetting :(

jardy · 14/02/2012 17:47

When I see the Nurses fly off their chairs like scalded cats I do feel bitter. There was a long delay before my ds was born by emergency cs despite my pleads, absolutley no sense of urgency whatsoever.Infact I felt I was doing the driving so to speak.I am sure many mums must watch and feel upset, and I think of other mums in my situation too Thanks

aliceinboots · 14/02/2012 17:50

What diagnosis are you thinking? CP?

StarlightDicKenzie · 14/02/2012 17:54

Perhaps. Most likely a developmental disorder of some kind. But I'd be surprised if there wasn't 'something'.

I think birth is underplayed a lot at the time, but it seems to feature as significant when they take the child's history for a dx.

I could not even think about watching it. Remembering the trauma, DGS ventilated, fitting, knowing he'd been born near lifeless and my DD could have died Sad 3 weeks of sheer bloody hell leaving us all a bit PTSDy.

For DGS to have been NT and not CP a crystal ball would have been needed, but if that crystal ball had been handy he would be running around now, talking and exhausting us all and my heart wouldn't ache every time I see the child he should have been.

That said it could have been a 100 times worse. We will get there in the end and he is such a gorgeous loveable little boy his smile makes it all worth it Smile

jalapeno · 14/02/2012 19:09

Yes but I was in absolute floods because it was so like DS1's birth (he was only 1oz smaller too!) and it hit home why we are having problems now, 6.5 years later Sad

Wasn't she a beautiful baby though? Smile

jardy · 14/02/2012 20:13

You mean the lovely baby that weighed 10lb 4 oz?Adorable.I suspect she is NT tho because when she was disturbed she cried. That was one thing I noticed about my DS,no reaction whatsoever.I have observed it in very prem babies and so long as there is no incidents/set backs I have noticed they have grown up NT.Sorry if I come across as a Know All,I do stand to be corrected!

Chundle · 14/02/2012 20:32

My first thought was I wonder how she will be in 3 years time.

StarlightDicKenzie · 14/02/2012 20:39

I hope so Jardy.

Just that level of trauma can't possibly have NOT affected the development hormones in the baby's body, and the lack of oxygen can't NOT have had any effect at all, even if just on working memory.

But I do hope you're right Jardy. After all, plenty of babies are born in all kinds of circumstances.

I dont watch it star but just wanted to add that 2 out of 3 of my deliveries were horrific and the two Dds both have issues. Dd2 was an easy waterbirth and she is my only NT child!!

I think you have a point too.

thereonthestair · 15/02/2012 09:52

Jardy I would just add that my DS was born naturally but prem at 29 weeks, and cried at delivery. He sailed through NICU/SCBU with no set backs at all discharged at 36 weeks, no infections, off ventialtaion in less than 24 hours, off CPAP in 4 days never went back on. Doesn't stop him having CP/hypermobility/chronic lung disease and possible epilepsy though. You never can tell. I do hope you are right but NICU experience is not determinative and I know far too many children for whom NICU was the easy bit

jardy · 15/02/2012 18:59

Sorry didnt mean to come across as a know- it- all! I thought it was reassuring that she cried when she was disturbed, but obviously it isnt the whole picture,so sorry if that upset people.

StarlightDicKenzie · 15/02/2012 19:04

Jardy, I can't speak for everyone but your comments are unlikely to have upset. Grin we're a tough bunch.

Thanks Starlight! Smile

golemmings · 16/02/2012 01:53

Just out of curiosity, what was it about the birth that is making most of you conclude that there may be particular issues for the baby? Was is the length if time taken to resuscitate or something else?

Chundle · 16/02/2012 07:43

I think prob when midwife said "you've got 30 secs to get baby out" and then they didn't get baby out for another 7 minutes.

thereonthestair · 16/02/2012 10:21

Jardy it didn't upset me, I just wanted to point out that its not always that straightforward, and you did say you stood to be correcetd!

devientenigma · 16/02/2012 16:35

now don't shoot me either but compared to some births it was still relatively over with quickly without numerous significant problems.

jardy · 16/02/2012 20:33

I am very sorry to hear about your little boy thereonthestair.I suppose because my ds showed no reaction at all when moved or disturbed in any way while in scbu I took it to be a good sign that the baby (10lb 4oz adorable baby girl) showed a reaction.
