My elderly Dad is to have a tracheotomy following major surgery. Initially he won't be able to speak.

Can anyone recommend any communication aids (a site for downloadable flash cards maybe?) suitable for an elderly person in a hospital situation. Any thoughts or suggestions would be really appreciated.

No, too weak following his surgery Sad

He needs to put his finger over the trachy hole to block the air. This will then get airflow passed his vocal chords. My DD had one for 8 years.

I am just off to bed, but I have used talking mats with folk with all types of communication difficulties. And you can make your own too if you feel arty :)

Many thanks for your suggestions.
