Hi folks, I need to write a report for my los annual review. Any pointers on the sort of thing I need to write? He's in reception and only starter in Sept. Obviously things have only been in place since he started in Sept. I just wondered what I needed to be putting.

Thanks

Iv'e just done ds's (he is also in reception.) I wrote lots... (but then that is just me... Blush.

I put it under headings;
personal care,
social interaction,
communication,
education,

I detailed how he had changed over the year in each of these areas, giving examples to back up what I was saying.

I then did a bit on any concerns we had; either with school or with ds...

I then did a bit on what we wanted to focus on for the year to come...

and finished up with 'ds's views' (they like that bit Grin) I did it by asking questions and interpreting his responses.

hope that is useful.... ?

I wouldn't write reams of stuff. Just say how you think DS is doing, what is going well and what, if anything, you'd like to change or discuss.

Thank -you everyone. That link is especially helpful Leonie, I feel like I have something to structure it from. TBH Im dissapointed that we are having to do it now. He orginally got a final statement a year ago when he was in part time pre school. However, we appealled and the the new final statement was only issued at the end of July as we went to tribunal. So the support given in the staement has only been in place 5 months. I don't think I can stop them doing the review yet, but can I mention that I think it is too soon to review some aspects yet?

Thanks

Why is it being done now then? The whole point of it is that the statement is reviewed annually

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 11/02/2012 14:08

it depends how old he is, under 5s are supposed to be reviewed 6 monthly.

Honestly, I'm not sure whether what I wrote was appropriate or not. I basically stated that he is making progress presently with the support that he is currently receiving, but that we expect over the next school year that he will have more difficulty as the work relies more and more on comprehension, sequencing, and making predictions, as he is weak in this regard. I just pointed out that we believe he would do better in a special school (specifically the one we prefer), which has smaller class sizes, lessons geared specifically to his learning needs, facilities on site that are beneficial to him (sensory room, soft play area), and extra-curricular activities that he would be able to access and participate in.

I pointed out that these things are not currently available to him at his present school, therefore it is presently not the best fit for him anymore. I also mentioned that the social gap between DS2 and the other children in the same school year was widening more and more, and that he needed to be in a more inclusive environment in order to be able to develop more social skills that he would require to mature and eventually become independent.

The senco told me it was best in this instance to keep the parents view short and to the point, as too much information at this point and your ideas tend to get lost.

@Kim189 you’ve posted this on an old thread in the special needs section, probably best to repost in pregnancy.
Wishing you all the best.
