Muscle strength - scale for physios

DS has just returned from GOSH physio course for hypermobility and we have the report.

It is vague about improvements but there are a range of muscle strength scores tested on admission and discharge.

The problem is the scores say they are using the Kendall scale (0-5) but some of the scores go up to 10. Yet, DS has acknowledged very poor muscle strength????

How can you use a scale and then have numbers off the scale?

Are they referring to a different scale?

Any answers?

Sorry appropriately, I don't know what they check the muscle strength with. All I know is that so far with DS1 it has been totally arbitrary as to their opinions.
DS had 6 hours of tests by an experienced OT, in the summer - very full and extensive. A couple of weeks ago he saw a paediatric registrar - who totally dismissed the findings of the report in favour of her own opinion. Her version of a muscle strength test was to put her palms against DS's and tell him to push, same with his feet (lying down). Completely arbitrary!

Well that's how GOSH do it too and of course two different physios did admission and discharge so variable results are inevitable.

Surely there must be some less variable test, that can give a definitive answer? Or am I being too optimistic/ambitious?
Just thinking here, but is there any kind of test that uses force against a machine - that can be calibrated as to age/weight etc. Surely that would be less arbitrary?

You'd think so! It's not that I disagree with what is said, it's just I can't make sense of it!
