Has anyone else used Eskimo Kids fish oil?

Afternoon all

I gave dd this for the first time about 3 weeks ago and I instantly saw a difference in her behaviour...............but for the worseSad

I carried on nevertheless for about a week, but it became obvious that it wasn't a coincidence and it was the Eskimo Kids that was affecting her behaviour in such a bad way. I certainly wasn't expecting that.

She was more jumpy, very grumpy and defiant. Her speech seemed to be less clear and her words became more random and less clear.

I noticed a big change again when I stopped it almost instantly. So i'm just wondering whether or not I should have persevered and I wonder whether this is quite a common side effect to have at the beginning?

I still have the bottle in my kitchen and i'm reluctant to throw it away incase I did the wrong thing by stopping it.

I'm desperate for something to work! I know about Vegapa and i'll probably give that a go at some point. I just wanted to check first if anyone had any sucess with this particular brand.

ThanksSmile

My DS loves it and has had it for over a year. I haven't connected any behaviour to it to be honest...

My DS is fine with it too - but prob has diff diagnosis. DS has CP.

Oooooh now that has scared me detox have been giving it to the wee man!

I didn't want to put anyone off using it!! I just wondered if anyone else had had this same reaction. I've only heard good things about it, so I was just curious if it was just my dd.

DD is fine with the eskimo fish oils (we think her speech came on a bit more since starting it).

but we tried eyeQ fish oil before and DD just was unbearable. crying, moody, her verbal stimms increased very much, aggressive... the sudden change was mind boggling.

probably well worth trying a different oil.

Oh no choc!! I was going to buy some Eye Q tomorrow!! It must just be down to the individual I guess. Was the change in your dd's behaviour almost instant too?

pretty much - DD kicked off within a couple of days of starting eyeQ. and calmed down within a couple of days again. gawd, it was awful.we used it for 5-6 weeks.

I read later on somewhere that the evening primose oil in eye Q can affect sometimes children with asd Hmm. also, the eye Q tastes really foul (but DD didn't mind.

i would just give it a go...

Hi I gave Eskimo kids to both my girls. One seemed fine but the youngest today was acting really moody, angry and generally grumpy...very much out of character. I came across this message board by looking on a search engine for adverse reactions, looks like I have found my answer! Will not be giving it to either of my girls in the future and will revert back to the chewable seven seas vitamin.

Hi, we use the Boots multi vitamin and Omega syrup. It has reasonable levels of EPA and DHA and seems quite easy and pleasant to take. My DS is 7 and ASD.

Hemzie, I wouldn't rule it out completely for your dd if it's just been one day of a character change. I think most people are fine with it, so maybe keep going with it for a few more days or maybe a week and then you can be sure. It could just be a complete coincidence and she may have been grumpy without the oil. Obviously you know best, but I personally went with it for about a week and a half before I knew for a fact it was the oil. Good luckSmile

manfrom, have you noticed a change in your ds's behaviour since taking the syrup?

"manfrom, have you noticed a change in your ds's behaviour since taking the syrup?"

I think it is beneficial for him (definitely doesn't do any harm) but to be honest it's difficult to be sure as we do quite a range of interventions and supplements. It's difficult to know what's really bringing about improvements without withdrawing and then reintroducing things in quite a scientific manner. However, his behaviour is generally pretty good with just the occasional meltdown. His main problems at the moment are verbal and motor stims.
He manages well at mainstream school (with 1-1 support) which I never thought I would have said 3 years ago....
