Need some advice, DD 26 has DS and works 1/2 day a week in a charity shop and has done so for the last 2 years and seems to really enjoy it. Today I had a 'phone call to say she had been a bit stroppy as she had been asked to do dusting (totally out of character but that's life) but usually goes on the till
Then went on to say when she leaves and has 2 bus journeys she goes to the toilet and does smelly poos what the hell am I am supposed to do about it!
Have spoken to her about attitude and she said she wasn't rude but she would be careful next week I feel like saying piss off but she loves it there. BTW she goes to a children's SN club to help and they love her to bits as she is so helpful I feel so hurt for her

WTF - Smelly poos!

2nd Oneofthechildlessones. WTF? I'd be hurt and fuming on DD's behalf. How awful of them to ring you with such trivial rubbish. Everyone has off days and as for the poos comment...I'm speechless!

lisad123 · 09/02/2012 22:08

That's terrible! Angry
Would they ring anyone whose dd was nt to moan about them doing a smelly poo!

Voidka · 09/02/2012 22:20

I can absolutely understand why you are so cross - what terrible behaviour from them.

This is what I feel is this Disability Discrimination. Thanks for your positive support. BTW it is a charity for people with LD!!

Your DD may have DS but she is also 26 and an adult. It sounds as though they don't have the skills to manage someone with a LD and so they are hoping you can do some 'management by proxi'.

The comment about the toilet is just thrown in to make you feel uncomfortable and (they hope) make you take her away.

Was it a paid manager who rang you, or another volunteer? Is there someone in a higher position that you could complain to?

2old2beamum · 09/02/2012 22:43

amistillsexy it was her keyworker at her day services who is excellent who rang me and felt I should know. My gut feeling is to say sod you you won't have the pleasure of our lovely daughter. My biggest worry is she loves going there and I am a big WUSS but i am so cross I am going to act.

cheeky fkn basta**s.

even the queen does fkn smelly poos. get a bloody can of air freshener. that is disgraceful and you must complain.

i am so gutted by the attitude of these horrible people. its what our kids face every day. Sad

DH spoke to her key worker and she said she is as upset as we are and is having a meeting next week. However DD will not be working as the meeting takes place when she should be working. I am concerned
her confidence will be affected, I know she is academically bright (almost autistic) but hasn't the sense she was born with and I am very protective SO thanks forall your support. To add to my angst while this was going on DS also DS had a seizure cut his head, landed up in A&E having 4 sutures!

If she is used to doing till duty only and they have unexpectedly landed her with a different routine for the day then part of the blame lands at their feet tbh.

Also I would tell them that toileting issues are rather personal to each individual are they not and dont see the point of embarrassing your daughter by such a a trivial matter seeing as every individual has toileting off days. So perhaps a discreet laminated sign on the back of the door as a reminder "could ALL staff please refresh toilet after use" and leave an available can of freshner next to the soap or something or supply one of those automatic spray thingys.

I really would stick to my guns and stop them from bringing it up to your daughter. What petty people!
