How have your children enjoyed (or not) the snow?

My DS wouldn't go near the stuff for years and now that he is four he has improved.

Somewhat. He will go out now. But he has very pre-conceived ideas about what should happen when playing in the snow. Not helped by DVDs which don't get across the fact that snow isn't innocuous powder - it's cold and wet and bloody well stings!

DD (11) tried to make a snowman but nothing was good enough. Olives for eyes were acceptable but only after several tries at placement. A carrot baton for a nose was not. And when it came to the mouth, only an orange (which I didn't have) would do.

Cue utter hysterical screaming fit and me having to go out in my pyjamas and bare feet to haul him in before the neighbours called the police.

We had another non-snow-related meltdown this morning because of an incorrect flamingo drawing which DD had kindly tried to do. It should have been standing on one leg.

I have nodded along knowingly to the 'things have to be just so and as he pictures them' - my ds is like this too.

My DS loves the snow, loves playing in it with me or alone in the garden, it's when it starts to melt that we hit trouble. He's been extremely upset about George, his snowman starting to melt - really devastated.

< prays for the end of the sunshine for your DS boredandrestless>

I had a conversation with my Dad earlier and he said that DS wants things to be how HE wants them to be. I think it is more that DS thinks things should be how they SHOULD be.

We bought him a Gruffalo costume recently and because ONE detail was different from the book he went ape-shit. He must find the world really confusing and scary so when a rule is broken or something isn't completed or exact it really, really matters.

Hope the demise of George isn't too painful Sad

We brought ski trousers for the girls, warm and they stay dry. Also very padded, so great if they fall over

None of my boys were interested at all in the snow. They opted for staying in the warm in their pjs and playing/doing homework etc.
Tbh, I think the NT 2 still have nightmares at how nasty DS1 was when it snowed last time

EstellaJaneisnotmyname · 07/02/2012 17:48

DS2 just can't stand getting cold anymore, so snow is a big no no, despite snow trousers, thermals etc. I am always really disappointed as it makes it difficult to get out there with the other 2 who love it.

We haven't had so much as a , and we were all set Sad.

Ds hated the snow until I eventually managed to persuade him to get on the sledge and be pulled along, then the only problem was getting him off it. Smile

Was meant to say so much as a flake, don't know where that went!
