Can I ask a possibly dim question about vaccination here please?

I don't want to ask on the vaccinations board as I don't want a lot of people telling me how irresponsible I am etc. People here, whatever their views on vaccinations, at least won't ridicule me for being hesitant! thanks Smile

There are plenty of threads on MN from people worried about giving their toddlers vaccinations (or usually the MMR) but never a mention of teenagers. Is this because it is much safer when they are older? Or does a person who may be considered vulnerable remain so? I've read loads of interesting stuff on MN over the years about vaccination (when it didn't go over my head that is Blush) but I'm still confused about this. I know some people have said that they will get their children tested at puberty for immunity and then get them done then if need be so I'm thinking that must mean they believe it will be safer then. Is that right?

I'm asking really for dd who has just had a reminder for boosters (we had one before but it was between Christmas and New Year so easy for me to forget all about it ), but in a few years this will apply to ds too so I need to be able to make a decision I'm happy with for them both. My instinct is to avoid the vaccinations but I don't know if I'm being silly now they aren't toddlers anymore.

Do you have a specific reason to be worried about the booster vaccinations?
Where there problems with your DC's when the had their original jabs? If not, then I wouldn't see the need to be concerned about them having boosters.
DS had all his jabs except MMR (as is was all just 'kicking off' at the time his was due). He had his 'school leavers' boosters at age 14 last year and I did it without hesitation - he was not required to have MMR booster, being a boy but IIRC they do give MMR booster to girls at this age.
