meeting went ahead to discuss review of DS and the implimentation of DS statement hoorah you say........

HT (who is senco), TA and Teacher. Low and behold there was an EP when I arrived who I didnt know, hadnt expected and yes as most know I like DS hate surprises. Supposedly there to give me support???

Can anyone tell me if I am right or wrong. When a SEN is given, after you have fought for it, LA have looked at all reports and prepared it and you have worked hard to get it right...........is the school expected to follow it to the book?

Are they allowed to decide things dont/wont work (even when they do at home and I have been asking them to try them at school well before it was put in black and white by proffessionals) and not do them?

Are they allowed to pooh pooh the OT and her methods who I happen to think is the only one with her head screwed on?

I am seriously about to burst a blood vessel.

Not surprised you are feeling cross after a meeting like that - personally I'd be imagining some other people's heads having an accidental collision with that brick wall...

Perhaps a follow up letter copied into the la and the ot pointing out that as a sen is a legally enforcable document, you look forward to hearing what extra support they need from the la to make sure they can implement the measures in the sen.

But sossen or ipsea would probably have some good advice on this.

I closed my eyes and that made a very apealing picture.....:)

Its seems like there is always someone standing behind you with a pin to burst your bubble.....DS has 6 months left before he goes to juniors and already the next school are refusing even though he has a really good statement and good funding with the agreement of more being added once reports are in. I really want to see this statement in motion and at least see if it makes a difference.

He is part time and now statement is in place can be integrated to full time slowly but I got 3 ppl arguing on which day is best to start!!! Cant do this day because teacher not in (fair enough but he has 1 to 1) Cant do that as its RE that afternoon (AND soooo put a social skills lesson in motion or motor skills or something). My question was "so what happens when he is full time then??In the same breath they are stating he is not there enough to implement it all which is correct and I accept the obvious.

The main prob is the teacher. She is great teaching cant fault her and wont but she wont let ds out of the classroom and believes he will miss out on what the others are doing whilst having sensory diet stuff for a few minutes outside the class. I dont think she likes the fact that someone else (OT) has demonstrated to them how to speak to DS and how to get him to comply on a small task whilst taking his sensory needs into consideration. He hates it when it is busy and needs a break. Her idea is "well we all have a little excercise break in the class perhaps we can do a bit more but I cant see it working" Hellooooo no its not working because he is overloaded and needs to be on his own! doing his own jumps or some heavy lifting etc then back to it.

Visuals are important and every report I have state so. He has auditory filtering and oh boy you try and explain that to someone who doesnt know. DS is a picture thinker.

Its the adaption of the curriculum I think she is against. She seems adamant that DS can be "normal" and will be if he is trapped in that classroom with no room to budge. Full time? wont work unless they listen but I know she will say her usual "well we can only try our best MUM" Angry

www.ipsea.org.uk/What-you-need-to-know/Common-problems.aspx#top
link here is to advice from ipsea on how to complain if statement is not being implemented.

I would put concerns (in writing) to the school first, then if no suitable response follow up with letter to la who have ultimate legal responsibility to make sure it happens.

It is so frustrating when you have to waste energy persuading people of an argument you thought had already been won.
