How pushy can you be to get the IEP implemented?

My sons second IEP is consistently not be fully implemented. I pointed out failings in the 1st IEP (mainly to do with IT usage and handwritting/number practice) and in the second IEP they had fewer targets and dropped the frequency of them from 3 times a week to twice a week with one target and every week to once a fortnight with another. I have spoken to the teacher and the head and (as of last week)am taking DS out of school for one afternoon a week so that I can progress his targets but how pushy should I be to get them to do their bits?I have 2 kids at the school and am a governor so I dont want to sour relationships, but I do want action.

It unfortunately sounds like the money (or perhaps even the will of the school)is not fully there to properly implement the IEP. In my experience of such things they were more style than substance although useful to have overall.

You may want to consider applying to the LEA yourself for your son to be assessed with a view to getting a Statement. Unlike IEP's, statements are legally binding and a set number of hours per week in terms of support will be on this document.

IPSEA are very good in this regard and their web address is www.ipsea.org.uk

IEPs don't necesarily have to have targets which happen outside the classroom. Is there anyway (depending on what sort of targets your ds has) that they can be incorporated into the literacy or numeracy daily lessons? We have to show on our weekly literacy and numeracy lessons how IEP targets will be worked towards for individual children.

figleaf, we have just found out that our DS has had an IEP in place since Sep 05 and we werent informed about it-or has anything been done about DS tagets etc erm NO

We have a meeting with the school in the next couple of weeks, however i have spoken to IPSEA and they have informed me that an IEP is not worth a lot im afraid, the only way to get your childs needs addressed is by getting them statemented which is what we are applying to do.
