Dd having sleep issues, haven't slept for weeks now, very stressed, Tracey falls asleep by having calpol within 1 hour but trouble is she wakes up every 2-3 hours and I am not getting any sleep, going through a tough time ... Kindly help with your experiences/strategies... Should I ask consultant for any medication?

Ask for melatonin. You can get tablets or liquid form called kidnaps. I get mine from GP. It is invaluable. If you do a search on mumsnet for melatonin there are loads of threads about it.

Hi, DS1 has similar sleep issues, wakes up every few hours, will this help him sleep longer as well? With DS2 home it's getting tougher with us as well Sad
Sorry I am off no help

When I first started with melatonin it seemed to keep ds1 asleep all night after a while it was less effective. It seemed to get him off to sleep but there were still times he would wake up. So after a while gp also gave us alimemazine so he has a small amount of this (1ml) as well this seems to keep him asleep until about 6.30- 7am ish which is fine. You definitely need a sympathetic GP. I would start with the melatonin first.

Sorry to hijack but what kind of a med is alimemazine? We have delayed release melatonin but it is not keeping him asleep beyond 4 am.

Does these medications has any side effects ?

I think alimemazine is some kind of anti histamine - we used to have one called vallergan but it was then changed to alimemazine when vallergan wasn't available. It is very strong so you only need very small amount but this in combination with melatonin has sorted ds sleep for us. We haven't had any side effects, but I must say that ds has built up a tolerance to melatonin so his dosage has gone up over the years.
