Sorry it seems petty, but just wanted your opinions. DS2 has an IEP that says he should be sat at the front of the class so that he can have the best chance at taking in instructions (working memory is very poor).

Sent science teacher an e-mail end of last year saying DS has absolutely no sense of danger, so she might want to keep a closer eye on him when doing practical experiments.

Got a snotty note in his planner yesterday saying that he had been continually striking matches in the experiment, so she had to send him out of the class for the rest of the lesson. Turned out he was sat at the back of the class for the experiment.

We had a word with DS about striking matches and dangers etc. Shall I send an e-mail to school saying...'well if you had done what you were supposed to do" .......but maybe a bit more politely Grin Or should I just leave it and realise DS was out of order?

I would nothing. The IEP is there to help although Sitting at the front is an odd target!!

The teacher was being dim, why on earth didn't she take the matches off him after the firt strike??

She needs a reminder, maybe you could email her head of department as well just to make sure she gets the messageWink.

Maybe just write a note saying 'thanks for letting us know, we have spoken to ds about why this behaviour isn't safe. Would it be possible for him to sit at the front so he can be more closely supervised?' If you want to be a bit snotty add 'as per IEP' but if you want to show you are being supportive etc then I probably wouldn't - she probably just forgot.

I'd enclose a copy of his iep and statement with a polite note. Poor woman may not even have been informed he's sen if it's a secondary school.

You'd be amazed at poor internal communication can be sometimes in schools. If she forgot it's a reminder, if she didn't even know - well you'll be helpin her for the future too.

Having said that she does have to take saftey issues very seriously - it may mean that he needs a TA for science and DT lessons to keep him and other children safe - worth asking her opinion on? Inclusion shouldn't mean danger imho.
