Seizure???

Tonight is going to be a long night. My son is 4 has an ASD and severe learning difficulties, cant communicate, feed himself self care at all. Tonight he fell asleep a little earlier than normal curled up on the sofa for 20mins then turned over and he was wide awake staring at the curtains. His breathing was noisy like snoring, eyes were fixed and pupils dilated and he went very flushed.

I thought he was dreaming at first and started trying to distract him by jumping about like a loon, tickling his tummy and all his favorite things even BabyTV, nothing would snap him out of it. His feet were twitching and hands were like he was twiddling something but had nothing in his hands.
After ten minutes i was approaching panic mode and its completely out of character for him, i've got some of it on video on my phone for the doctor as the childminder described something similar three weeks ago .
When he came round (after apx 15 mins) he vomited, had a low temperature and was white as a sheet, does this sound familiar to anyone?

As he cant tell me whats wrong its so hard to understand new events with him.

Ill be calling his paediatrician first thing, for now he is sound asleep and i'm lay on a camp bed next to him, doubt ill sleep a wink!!!

This does sound like a seizure to me and I would have called an ambulance after 5 mins too! It is definitely an emergency because sometimes people don't come round without medication and the ambulance service can deal with this. My dd has epilepsy and I have had to call an ambulance in these circumstances - have been told that a child having a seizure is a top priority for them! It is normal for a child having a seizure not to remember anything - it is much more stressful to watch it happen.
As your child has now had 2 seizures they are likely to be given medication. Most epilepsy drugs are very effective and this condition is therefore very treatable.

Hi thank you I did call NHS direct and they were fantastic. His first one at the childminders was during the afternoon and not sleep. He slept like a log through till half seven this morning and he's been asleep again from 6pm. His gp and paediatrician have said the same thing that it seems like he has had an absence seizure.

Not completely clued up on what it is but I'm getting the general picture, we are off to see the paediatrician Monday and I've been told like you have both said if he has another that lasts longer than 5 mins call an ambulance. Also spoke to his school (he attends a special needs school) and his reception head has said and documented that they have noticed a change in behaviour since the start of the year and that it could be linked. So I guess here we go again with all the tests, scans etc.

I think it's fair to say he scared the life out of me, but at least I know what to do next time!!!!
