Hi all

This is my first post here. I have a almost 4YO daughter who has always been really hard work - very hyperactive, strong willed about what she will / willl not do, doesnt understand appropriate behavious - always wants hug / touch people's faces; needs to know everyones name etc.

I really got to the end of my tether and spoke to my HV last November. They were very good and came out to do a behaviour review and she was really hyper that day. They recommended that she get referred.

I got the letter on Monday with an appointment for two weeks time. Coincidently this was also the day that her ballet teacher has given her one more week before she is expelled. The ballet teacher was upset talking to us about it but said my daughter was being very disruptive to the other children and had we considered that she may have ADHD.

I am nervous about what to expect from an initial appointment. Her behaviour has periods of being very bad to moderately difficult and I guess I am worried that this will be the one time that she is quite calm and sits there nicely.

Will they take my word on things or only assess how she is on the day?

What is the process they go through?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

In my case the paed talked to me for most of the appointment. I wrote lots of things down in case I forgot them as I'm not great in these situations.

No quick judgments where made, she observed DS as we just chatted, you know your child best and she will understand she may behave differently in an unusual situation.

Video a meltdown if you get the chance! I'd agree to have a written list of your concerns and your questions as I always forget to ask something vital as I'm afraid I always get a bit emotional. Blush Best to have thought about what you want to say with a cool head.

When my DS was assessed it was with a paed and a speech therapist, one played with him while the other got a history, so they observed him as well. That may not be the case at your appointment. Hope you get some answers.
