The main treatments we've done with DS are:
- Auditory Integration Training (at the Sound Learning Centre)
- Retained Reflex Therapy (at the Sound Learning Centre)
- Osteopath
- Tinsley House
Both TH and SLC are totally brilliant. Not even sure which one I'd recommend to go to first - probably TH.
He has fairly mild ASD - but was really struggling at school.
ie walking out of class up to 5 times a day, hitting kids on occasion.
Threw a chair once.
Thought he was being bullied.
Spent all lunchtime trying to escape. (literally climbing the fence)
Was doing very average academically (when he should have been doing a lot better).
He was also always very anxious, and had quite a bit of OCD.
School were ringing us about once a week to complain about his behaviour.
Rigid, black & white thinking.
Now, he's doing very well at school.
Doesn't walk out of class or hit.
Got loads of friends.
Is able to resolve normal playground stuff himself.
Is doing very well academically.
Has no behaviour problems.
Is head boy school councillor. (ie he represents the school when they want one boy and one girl for something)
And is now doing well at Rugby as well.
Is calmer and happier.
Can be reasoned with :) (ie not black & white thinking anymore)
He's still a little bit anxious - but far far better than it was before. And he still has a bit of OCD - but we haven't finished treatment at TH yet.
We moved school at the same time as doing all these treatments, which has also helped enormously. I have got to say when he was asked to represent the school at some Olympic torch thing I was really overcome.
