What do specialist teachers do/assess for?

I had a meeting with SENCO today about DS(7)'s problems with written expression. I had hoped to have feedback from the specialist teacher (cognition and learning team) who came in to school weeks ago and spent some 1-1 time with him, but they are being very slow at getting back to school.

I am not really sure what they would have been looking at/what might come back in the report.

Can any of you enlighten me...what sort of things might I expect the report to contain? What can/can't they do??

Can you phone the specialist teacher and ask to meet or at least discuss over the phone for verbal feedback.

What have the school said?

Did they ask your permission for this teacher to come in or did it just happen?

It might be sensible next time to request that you meet with any 'experts' immediately after they see your child. It is YOUR child after all.

The paed arranged for them to come in with my full permission. I was expecting to get feedback from SENCO straight after, but she didn't get the feedback immediately like she had expected. She chased them 10 days ago and they are writing a report, but it's taking a long time!
