Cool piece of echolalia from DS

"Grandad! Five take away two, take away one, take away one is one"

My Dad: Shock

DS is four and a half. I have had no end of ignorance from the man and if he could be arsed he would know that DS' "abilities" are not what they seem. He has heard it at school - probably once, and he has remembered.

Then again my enjoyment was short-lived because when he got over the shock he told me to limit DS' computer time as he is, "far too good for his age". He probably envisages my son bringing about a hacking-related nuclear holocaust Hmm

These are making me :o DS1 came out with some corkers when he was in his echolalia phase, but nothing like some of these! His worst thing was imitating people. When he was 2.5, we were walking through the local hospital with DS2, who had been in for a blood draw and there was an old lady, in very poor health, bent double over a frame and coughing and grunting a lot. DS1 started imitating the noises she was making! Blush I was so relieved she turned and saw a small boy in a buggy and saw the funny side of it!

DS2 isn't producing much clear speech, but when he embarked on a phase of gettign onto, into and under everything and generally causing mayhem, last summer (erm, is it a phase if it hasn't finished, yet?) I started saying "DS2, you little turkey!" One day, he shocked me, firstly, by announcing "I little ta ta" and then dived under the computer table to inspect all the cables! (Actually, DS1 did pretty much the same, at a much younger age - I'd know he was about to start a climb because he'd shout "det down!")

DS has Charlotte's Web on DVD, he has never actually watched the film though, on the start screen there is about 6 short scenes that repete over and over until you press play. We have never pressed play. He just wants to see the clips.

So what is it called when it's echolalia of an action? DS throws himself at the floor and rolls around like the pig in the clip. No speech, just copying the moves?

ds is a copycat, he copies phrases from films but his speech is unclear... his favourite is disney cars... a few here .... "not in my town you don't" humoured me when he said it while sat eating dinner in town :)

everytime he hears music he says "pretty music" says it as random people go by with head phones on, as been known to repeatedly say "we've got a nodder" lol if we pass a car park or lay bys he says "all those sleeping trucks/cars"

dd couldn't go in the playground at school, she would hide around the corner and watch, ht tried to force her into the playground, she said i'm not going to be bullied, he started to reply with, do you know what a bully is, she said excuse me can you get down to my level as i can't hear you very well from up there, and it's hurting my neck looking up there, he crouched down to tell her what a bully was, she replied oh that means your a bully and swiftly kicked him in the nether regions, saying my mum said don't let anyone bully you, report it to the teacher, you are the teacher and should know better, how many playtimes do i miss for this?....you told me if i'm naughty i have to sit on my own in the classroom at playtimes, ht replied you will miss 5 playtimes, dd said ok thanks, should we meet here same time next week?.....

If I never hear the chorus of Eddie Grant's 'Electric Avenue' again, it'll be too soon Grin

It's a slight improvement on the Fireman Sam stage when he was 3; DS is quite the mimic and used to say 'Norman Price, you little cheat!' and other assorted lines from the show about 10 times a day in a perfect Welsh accent.

The one that got him into the most trouble was when the teacher was taking the register and he would answer his name with 'Yes, Master', not sure which programe he picked that one up from, but his teacher was far from impressed!

DDs is 'try something new everyday'

if only she'd take her own advice when it comes to food

davidsotherhalf ROFL Grin. Lots of these made me smile but that made me laugh out loud - it is just the way DS's mind works too.

From, "George and Sam":

George, aged six, pointed at me and said, "She was a wonderful writer, artist and countrywoman", which I took as a tremendous compliment until I realised it was lifted straight from a video about the life of Beatrix Potter.

ds loved balloons when he was younger, he loved the noise they made when you blow them up and let them go, a boy overheard ds telling the teacher on his first day at school, i went to pick ds up from school (second day) and him and his friend came out crying,i tried to comfort them and find out why, little boy said ht took our balloons off of us at lunchtime and my mum needs them back or i'll be in trouble, i felt bad as he had taken the balloons into school to try and make friends with my ds, so i went to the ht and asked for the balloons back, she handed me a box of condoms, saying it's a bit late for them (me standing there 8 months pregnant,)ds replied it's never too late for balloons and these ones taste nice,

My favourite one from dd was when she was just on the point of a meltdown but I was talking her down and I thought I'd avoided it when this old couple interfered and said "Santa doesn't come to naughty girls" well that was it, dd had no comprehension of what they said but she wasn't happy at them getting close and speaking to her so cue screaming. I snapped " this isn't naughty this is autism made worse by bloody idiots like you!" In kicks dd's echolalia and she's roaring "BLOODY IDIOTS LIKE YOU!" They ran Grin

raffle think it's echopraxia, (ds used to echolalia with his signs and it was called that)
