I currently preparing my parental contribution for statutory assessment ..oh joy!
i have some questions with regard to my sons levels.
My son is 9 ,yr5 and has dyslexia.
They are as follows..
My son sats are as follow Reading end YR 3 1A ,YR 4 2B .
Writing YR3 1B, YR 4 2C
Maths YR3 2B, YR 4 2C
Also he is reading at level 4 in catch up,how is this when age related?

I understand that is he working at a level below the other children, but how far below?
Also his levels started to rise in the Autumn term of YR4 about the same time we let the senco know we were going to apply for Statutory assessment.
Any help or words of advice would be greatly appreciated..

Hi

This document from the primary progress toolkit might help.]]

There's also some info on the Woodlands Junior site - scroll down to where it says what do the levels mean.

We do catch-up at my school, but not me personally. Level 4 at Y5 is really quite low. More like a Y2 child, sorry. Sad We found that catch-up didn't work with our dyslexic children, either, the SENCo prefers Toe by Toe. IndigoBell has lots of info on dyslexia programmes, maybe worth PMing her?

Also his Maths levels have gone down between Y2 and Y4? If he was at 2B in Y2 (which is about average) he should be progressing at approx 2 sub levels a year and should be at about 3A by now, not dropping back to 2C.

Sorrry , gave wrong result for maths YR4, should say 2A. so some progress!

Thank goodness! Seemed a bit surprising. But he's still not making adequate progress, at 2 sub levels a year, so that's more evidence for you. Y3 looks like it was a bit of a washout, but y4 was a bit better. Different teaching style?

Hooray, have finished parental statement. I decided to go back over his grades and look at progress from start of yr 1.
Writing start yr 1...1c
mid yr4...1b progress in three and half yrs one sub-level.
Reading start yr1 ..1b
mid yr4 ...1a progress in three and half yrs one sub-level
I find this shocking, but surely the LEA will now see that the school are failing to meet my sons SEN needs.

It's not whether you can make them see. It's whether acknowledging now what they see will be cost-effective, or if there's a cheaper way. Some LEAs try and drag this out by arguing with you about what level he's at, what he is capable of doing and what action can be done with school based procedures (SA and SA+).
