Head teacher and deputy head cornered me today for an impromptu meeting.

Was right after the twins after school yoga class . ( taken by their teacher , I had to attend with them as Dds help had gone home by then , and there is no one else to stay with dd4.

Dd4 did nothing the teacher asked and spent the time wandering around in circles.
She ignores the teacher on a regular basis.

The deputy head at the meeting starts talking about dd4s progress , that they are very pleased with her and that she's making leaps and bounds ect.
Mainly because we bought an iPad for dd to use in school to do work on.
Before that dd did not really engage in anything except to use the smart board. Now we know she can count and read and spell simple words.

She still cannot be left on her own for any amount of time.
She still needs help to go to the toilet , and cannot reach door handles ect.
She still needs help and encouragement to eat and drink in school ( and at home)

On the basis of her improvements , the school is taking away her 1-2-1 assistant in the afternoons. She will still have her help to settle into the school morning , but after that she's on her own.

Her assistant is being taken to help with another Sn child in the attached nursery .

What can I do to appeal this ? , I think dd4 still needs full time help .

The head teachers parting shot was priceless ..." I don't know what we are going to do about dd4s swimming class as she needs to have someone with her then , I suppose we could ask for someone to fill in ?" .

If we hadn't got her the iPad , the school would not be aware of what dd can do , they sort of decided playing with sand and painting was about her capabilities...now they know she has learned , they are withdrawing her help .

Wtf ? She still has asd / GDd / hyper mobility ect.

What does it say in her statement?

latedeveloper · 16/01/2012 20:35

So the reason is really lack of resources rather than any change to her ability to manage and learn at school. If you don't yet have a statement then sounds as if you need to apply. Sad

yy. if her statement says 1-1, they can't withdraw it without annual review at the very least.

if she hasn't got a statement, it's time to get one. without, they can really do whatever they want.

but make noise.

Statement ...not sure . Have paperwork from all the official meetings with the school , they say she is to have 1-2-1.

I'm Angry now ,I think they cornered me ,because I was on my own with the twins and dh wasn't there to back me up.

It sort of felt like 2 against one.

if you are not sure if you have a statement, you probably don't... (the process takes 6mos and ends up as an official document with a 'named school' and a list of provisions.) you would have had to fill in a whole parental advice form, and there would be reports attached as appendices from all professionals. or are you not sure what her statement says in terms of hours of support? (it will give a number of hours 1-1 or specify small group work etc)

you need to discuss statementing with the senco. if dd needs 1-1 support at this level and they are not intending to provide it, either you or they need to request a statutory assessment pretty sharpish.

ask the senco whether dd is on school action plus, or if she needs a statement of sen.

paperwork from the school is all good eveidence in your application for statutory assessment, but without a statement i doubt any of it is binding.
