DS (8) has developed a vocal tic recently. He has no idea he is doing it and it becomes more pronounced when he is concentrating.

DH thinks its something I should be worried about but I'm not sure, and I don't want to google. Has anyone else's DC had vocal tics?

DS has a few issues and still incontinent at night and has poor handwriting (due to being hypermobile) but DH thinks we should combine these issues and speak to the GP. I think they are separate issues which can be related to other things going on in his life and I don't feel the need to speak to anyone just yet.

Hello, my ds (9), has a diagnosis of Asperger's. Over the last two years, during periods of high anxiety, he has developed a vocal tic which he said was like a hiccup Smile. I was concerned like you but as the anxiety eased, the tic faded away; sometimes it took days, sometimes weeks. I spoke to the CP about this and he said to monitor the situation, and in the absence of any other involuntary movements, etc, there was no need to be unduly concerned.

I am no expert and someone may come and corect me, but I hope this may reassure you.

DS2, also has Aspergers and vocal tics which come and go. On all his reports from Paeds etc they are listed as a separate item, not part of his Aspergers. I googled tics at one stage and it seems they are quite common and many children really do grow out of them.
