Hello Samira,

My DS has left sided hemiplegia. Is this what you are talking about. I have never heard it called a syndrome ... it is a form of cerebral palsy where the damage/injury has been to the right side of the brain. The effect is then like a stroke on the body and people are affected mainly in their hand/arm, foot and leg - however things like balance and eyesight can also be affected.

My DS was diagnosed when he was 6 months so I am imagining that he might be more affected than your DS, if he's only just been diagnosed. It was very obvious to us with our DS because at 3 months he was not using his left hand at all and this carried on.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with - I don't mind you asking any questions.

There is also a website - www.hemihelp.org.uk

This will tell you LOADS about hemiplegia and there is a forum on that website for you to talk to people/ask questions.

Hi thx soo much all I know is after a lot off test on ds2 I got a letter from his consultant that sad -Problem 1: Epilepsy with focal seizures 2: left side hemi syndrome...I have asked what this is and was told its a weakness on his left side now this could be because 1: he had a stroke when he had a seizure (have hade them sins he was 2 weeks old) or 2: this is just how his brain developed.

Never was I told anything about cerebral palsy..but as u say the balance thing and hands its so ds2. He can walk and use his hands but its like he is drunk he is starting physiotherapy next month.

Can I as about u child how is he now?!

Sorry Samira - I forgot about this post - and now have to type with 1 hand, due to big sleeping baby on lap ...

DS (nearly 5) is doing so well now. We have done tonnes of different therapies - all private - I can tell you about if you want - now DS is riding a bike beautifully without stabilisers - he does find climbing and fine motor stuff difficult, but adapts things v well so he copes admirably.
