Getting DD tested for Dyslexia?

DD is 4.5 and I'm getting really worried about her reading. She really loves stories and being read to, but she shows no interest in learning to read. She cries its too difficult and if she does try she gets fustrated very quickly and quite often ends up throwing a tantrum. She will learn a story off my heart and then 'pretend' she is reading. She is incredibly clumsy. Her concentration span is terrible.

My mother is dyslexic and what with DD1 due to start reception in Janurary I have begun to see similar traits in DD1 as I try to get her ready for reception.

Does anyone know how to go about getting testing done (especially in London)? I'm going to talk to her nursery teacher today, but would appreciate some pointers.

How do I know that there might be a problem?

I was worried about ds at similar sort of age. However it turned out that he would not try because he thought we would stop reading to him if he learnt to read himself. A year later and he is starting to read happily. Does she recognise letters such as those in her name, signs in shops, logos etc. She is still quite young and , I fear, it is possibly too early to diagnose definitively.

Hope her nursery teacher can out your mind at rest.

All I would add is that my neighbour's son has dyslexia and displays alot of behavioural problems too- might be worth listing down other concerns you have (if any)- basically dyslexia can cause the child great frustration so much so they can appear 'naughty'

In a nutshell...Dyslexia isn't just about reading and writing....but i'll leave that to mumsnetters that actually have children with dyslexia!!!
